For our X5 I’m going to get the wheel damage warranty. My wife likes to curb the wheels in the darn drive thru way too often! And with the X5 being VERY wide I know we are going to need the warranty! Remember those warranties are negotiable! So work them down as much as you can. |

I don’t know if you can add after the fact. I’m sure there is some company that would offer it, but probably costs more than at the time of a vehicle purchase. |

Oh dear! That’s too much. I actually just did a little research via Google on those warranties and there are so many people saying don’t bother. So unless the dealer is going to practically give the warranty to you, maybe we shouldn’t bother. Like I said in my wife’s case, they basically threw in two warranties and it reduced our payment...so I took them.

In the pot hole infested north east that warranty pays for it self. Take it from the guy that damage 2 F80 wheels and had them replaced along with 3 Pilot Super sports.

But - at least for us, the highest risk is in curbing. Which, it sounds like is reasonably repairable. |

Are there any 3rd party warranties available? The dealer is merely reselling a product and marking it up. I have seen mentions of this elsewhere in bimmerpost but haven’t found a source.
I just ordered a new x5 and with the cost of the 22” this is likely a good policy to buy. |

Unless BMW has changed their wheel warranty, it does not cover cosmetic damage. So, while repairing curb rash (typically ~$100 in my experience) doesn't justify the warranty, it doesn't matter since it's not covered anyway.
And...at least in the BMW wheel warranty I had for my '14 X5, it also doesn't cover curbs. I forget the exact language, but the warranty clearly states it covers damage due to something not normally in the road. That would exclude curbs. |
