Installation of 335i-specific-SSK
I received the parcel today. A white box with "Original BMW Performance Seal"
The contents of the box was like this: (find below the part numbers for the ones interested) Performance Gear Lever (25 11 0 429269) Shift Lever (25 11 0 434217) Bellows F.Performance gear lever (25 11 0 435847) Shifting Arm (25 11 0 434218) Circlip (almost invisible into the packaging) (25 11 1 220379) Bearing Shift Lever (25 11 1 220600) The installation was a real PITA (or PIPA in Greek) due to the below part In order to install the whole thing we needed to remove the below covers ,then the exhausts , then the differial pole (sorry dont know how this is called in proper English) and in the end to remove the gearbox in order to reveal this part on the below: The whole procedure took something like 1hour and 15 minutes as well as we left the car aside for 30-45 minutes in order to reduce the temps before technicians starts working on it. I was not expecting the installation to be such complicated (for me) . At the end the car was ready to drive but I didnt have the chance to drive long enough in order to express my opinion about it , but it feels very pleasant. I dont like the knob too much , but this is the least I would care for on such a mod. Once I will drive it more I will post my opinion. (sorry for the pics...has been taken from my blackberry)

wow, that definitely sounds tough for a DIY. look forward to your feedback. Could you also post photos of how the knob looks in neutral and different gears?

Yep, SSKs are a PITA to install.
I changed my e46 M3 shifter and I actually liked the slop better with the OEM shifter. This is a mod that I won't do again.

How do you like it? I'm curious how the full kit compares to just the lever. I just installed the lever only the other day. I'm pretty happy with it. About how much do you think the travel was shortented?

By lever, I meant the the shift rod, not the gear knob. I should've been more precise with that. I installed just the rod(lever) and it shortened my travel about 20%. |

While normal drive the "driving pleasure" is certainly improved. Still its NOT a day-night difference but I'm confident it deserves the money. Its not extremely shorter...but the huge distance between 4th & 5th on stock is not there any more.
On more "intense" driving (I made some a couple of runs shifting quickly) the difference from stock gets more obvious. Despite I was a bit skeptical on this product before the 2 runs i made (shifting from 2nd to 5th) was really satisfying. ...again, it's not a huge difference but you can feel that the improvement is there.

I have a nice DIY that I will be posting soon. once you get it down it only takes about 20-30 minutes at the most for a semi skilled person for the whole process.
Ill keep you guys posted on it. |

You won't believe how easy the lever shifts into 2nd gear.

Myself i found the lever to shift quite smoothly...so easy that I couldn't believe some times that the gear was in.

Very nice Panos! The car is coming along!
On a side note, once I get the V3 we (another forum member) will go to dyno our cars will let you know what the numbers look like.

i think i will wait for the shift arm to come out as a separate part. i dont like the knob or boot and thats probably a big chunk of the price of the kit

it will still shorten your throws
its not a big deal, just return it or wait for the individual piece to come out. |
