Couple of Ordering Questions - 4HA / 4HB & ZDB vs. ZDY (5AR)

Hi All - Hoping someone could help. I have a BMW X5-40i spec'd and ready to go for a November production, but wondering if I should wait for a December production instead (specific to Driver Assistance Package questions below). Specific questions include:

Heated Seats / Armrest / Steering Wheel:
4HA: Front and Rear Heated Seats
4HB: Heated Front Seats Armrests & Steering Wheel

Should the price / ordering guide actually read for 4HB "Heated Front Seat Armrest & Steering Wheel" with NO "s" after seats? The car comes with factory heated front seats "Option 494", but 4HB will delete that option, and I just want to make sure that it will still have heated front seats without ordering option 4HA (Front AND Rear Heated Seats).

Driver Assistance Plus / Professional:
Package ZDB (Driving Assistance Plus) is EOP 11/18, Package ZDY (Driving Assistance Professional) is SOP 12/18. Both come with 5AU, however ZDY includes 5AR "Extended Traffic Jam Assistant for Limited Access Highways".

What the heck is 5AR and what does it actually do beyond the description above. If it's worth it, I would wait for a December build.
Thanks!

I have an xDrive 40i on order, week 40 build.

It includes 4HA Front and Rear Heated Seats ($350), and 4HB Heated Front Seats Armrests and Steering Wheel ($250). I wanted 4HA (and not 4HB), but was told at time of order that 4HB was a requirement to get 4HA. I didn't see that logic in the ordering guide, but I was fine with the extra option/cost.

As I understand it..I've not had this verified, but my common sense reading of the ordering guide says:

ZDY Driving Assistance Professional Package ($1,200) includes 5AU Active Driving Assistant Pro and 5AR Extended Traffic Jam Assistant for limited access highways. ZDB Driving Assistance Plus Package ($1,200) includes only 5AU.

Looking at the EOP and SOP dates, I infer that all builds through November will get ZDB and those thereafter will get ZDY. Same price. Only difference is that BMW is adding 5AR beginning in December.

Whether or not you want to shift your slot to a later date becomes a question of how much you'll value/use 5AR. According to the ordering guide, 5AU includes Traffic Jam Assistant, presumably just not for "limited access highways."

Probably has something to do with the "Driver Attention Camera" -> as long as the camery/vehicle thinks you are paying attention, you can go completely hands off the steering wheel (indefinitely in theory).

Makes sense, I'm guessing this "hands-off / paying attention" feature is only available on the highway (70+MPH) in the USA right now, and it expands the functionality to limited access roads (55MPH). IMO, worth the wait, I'm going to try for an early December build.

The one frustrating part of the 2019 A6 5.0 I rented in Europe over the summer was the car kept asking me to put my hands back on the wheel. Does the BMW ask you to put your hands back on the wheel?

Yes - thanks for confirming my original post, that is also how I understood the options and timing.

I'm going to call BMWNA and figure out what 5AR is all about. More to report soon. Let me know how you like your X5 when you get it. Looks like a great refresh of an already awesome vehicle.

Just got off the phone with BMW Genius, very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. They don't have a lot of documentation on "5AR - Extended Traffic Jam Assistant for Limited Access Highways" within ZDY, however they believe it may extend the time for "hands off" the wheel or scenarios in which "hands off" can be applied (for example extending functionality to a 55MPH road vs. 70MPH road).

They wouldn't know until Oct/Nov, however one thing seems certain, there is some increased functionality so I'll probably go with a December build. Who knows, 5AR could be coded as well, but I'd rather not risk it if there is updated hardware in the vehicle as well.

Thank you for your input on this. The change from ZDB to ZDY (as well as the addition of "5DF Active Cruise Control" are the main things holding me back from executing my build now vs waiting for December.

If anyone has any more information on these features, please let me know!

ZDB and ZDY packages both have ACC. Are you wanting 5DF ACC as a stand-alone option?

This thread has an explanation of the difference: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1542899

I suppose ACC going stand-alone is a side effect.

Ok - that info is really helpful, but how is ACC impacting this? The thread references extended time using hands off the steering wheel?

Did we ever figure out anything more about “5ar” and whether it is coding or actually hardware? I’m trying to decide if I should accept an earlier build slot...which would give me a leather credit but no 5ar...or stay in my Dec build and get 5ar but no credit.

This is gonna be next to impossible without a car in hand most likely. If I was a betting man I'd say it's software given it's only allowing the feature up to higher speeds or more time hands off.
