New DCT on 09 335i series
There is a hope that we will get the new DCT on 335i series here in US. Bimmerfile.com just posted an Australian guide which has it on 335i. I am picking up my 09 coupe on Oct. 16 and would love to have it...

Will love to see it if it comes true. Unfortunately from the sound of it North America may not be getting them rightaway.

I'm sure it will eventually come through. BMW needs to work out all the kinks before they are going to put it into the regular 3 series. There have been some issues with DCT already in the M3. It has potential to make them a lot of money, but also an equal potential for them to lose money if they aren't organized and end up having to replace DCT trannies when the service techs change the fluid or something.
I have no factual evidence to base this on, but I think you'll see DCT and the updated i-drive for 09 335i and 09 m3 (i-drive only because it already has DCT) |

They are already putting it in 09 Coupe for Australian market, so I am sure they figured out any potential issues. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't put in US. Identical vehicle, built in the same factory.

But North America is their biggest market for the 3 series. They cannot take a chance.

Agree, but it is also a great opportunity to get ahead of competition who plays in the same segment. Fuel pump issues on turbo models didn't make a big effect, people kept buying them. I hope BMW will take the risk.

I guess that would be nice.
But at $2,700 (more than the manual) I'm not sure it will be worth it. The auto in the 335i is already a bit faster than the manual's and as far as an auto is concerned it's about as good as it gets. The DCT will surely be a bit better yet, but worth an extra $1,500 more than the auto for what might be .1 second advantage??? |

I drove an M3 with DCT and own a 335 with Step. The step has a faster reaction time for activating the gear change after pulling on the paddle. With the DCT, there's a slight delay after pulling the paddle before the gear change actually occurs, where it's almost right away with the Step.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
