Car Insurance

Hi All, currently have an M2C on order and out of curiosity decided to check out a few insurance quotes.

Appreciate it’s an ‘M’ car but I’ve been quoted more than double my current Focus RS policy. My current RS is pretty heavily modified running Mountune 380 kit, exhaust system, suspension etc.. all declared to insurance.

Any pointers on who can provide competitive quotes? I’m genuinely shocked at the price difference found so far

I got mine from Direct Line, was only £100 more than I was paying for a standard Golf GTi. Guess it's all relative to where you live and driving history etc. But I was surprised it was as cheap as it was, was worried it was gonna sting at the time.

Just try as many as you can is the only way to be sure.

Try the brokers / comparison sites then others direct.

My M6GC is £300/y so I hope the M2C will be less, but you never know...

I swapped from lightly modded M135i to M2C and got £27 back (policy until May).

Aplan Thatcham is the broker I use.

Cheers everyone, Directline seems to be the cheapest for me. Only a marginal increase on my current car.

Not tried any broker’s yet, but closer to delivery time I’ll give them a shout.

Insurance is a mad one, I’ve had a few surprises over the years getting refunds etc.. when not expected. I thinks it’s just the cost in general that is increasing year on year.

I had a modified Focus RS a few years ago, then a modified A45.

The RS was around £40 cheaper than the A45 & M2 at A Plan. Defo worth giving them a shout as they can be negotiated with and are pretty flexible.

Mines due renewal currently with direct line and they want £790 for the year, 52 years old, 18yr ncb, no points, claims etc, live in the sticks in Devon good postcode

Ran a quote on the comparisons sites and LV cheapest at £397.

Admiral used to be cheap they came in at £680.

Going to run the quotes again on Saturday as this is the 21 day point before my renewal and according to Martin Lewis this is the best time for a cheap quote. We shall see.

just went on the LV site and ran a multi car quote, the M2 comes in at £293 and the wife's Abarth at £240. Very happy with that for the two cars!

If you have access to USAA, they are quite good.
I didn't buy the car, but when I got a quote for a new M2 earlier in the year, it was only like $12 a month more than my 2012 135.

Adding the missus will usually make it cheaper. Unless she's got loads of points or something...

Conversely adding husband to missus car will increase her premium.

Good price DLT222.

LV cheapest for me still. Taking me off the wife's car added £40 to the premium!

I'm with Admiral on my current car and accordingly to comparison sites it's still my cheapest option for the M2C; this is based on me living in London.

Have you had a figure from Admiral to change cars mid policy?

I got a nice little refund coming from an M6!

I did that for mine (admiral) the other day and they wanted to charge almost 4 times more my current premium.

I then cancelled my old policy and made a new one and only got a £200 increase but because I added few things. Not sure what's going on with their systems.

Over 50 now 🙁
Excesses high at £600
