Dinan CF Cold Air Intake

Has anyone here installed this? I'm thinking about taking the plunge but I was reading through the installation instructions last night.

It looks like I have to modify the bracket on my 2018 LCI and there might be a snow screen that needs to be removed, if I have it, which required additional mods to the lower air box and I live it New England, where it snows a lot.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Hi OP,
Install should be pretty easy.

If you decide to go through with it, please let us know how it goes.

I'm not too worried about the install itself. I'm more worried about this note on the Dinan install instruction sheet below.

Figure 12. *Please note that removal of the snow valve may affect
engine performance in extreme winter conditions.

I understand this statement was crafted by a lawyer somewhere to cover their ass but i'm also yanking out a component that some German engineer deemed as necessary. Winters in Boston tend to be extreme.

Is that the checkerboard screen at the air box inlet?

I just read the directions and they're referring to something else.

No there is a rectangular snow screen that penetrates the outside of the box. I'm assuming I have this but have not ripped into it yet.

Well that would be nice. I hope your right. I'll find out this weekend.

I reached out to Dinan on this. I have to say they are very responsive. Here is their clarification on the purpose of the snow valve.

The use of the snow valve is there in case the entire intake tract (center grille area essentially) becomes compacted with snow and therefore no air can make it to the CAI and then to the turbos starving the engine of the needed air. The snow valve offers a small area where engine heat can melt a small opening into the intake tract so SOME air can get into the system even if the rest of the normal intake tract is compacted with snow. Ultimately the snow valve serves a very specific purpose and was designed for artic European conditions. While it is possible to get some of those conditions in the NE it is not commonplace.
