540i M Sport order placed, but with possible issue

So I ordered a 540i M Sport through my local dealer last week. This will be probably my 10th BMW, most through this dealer, and will replace my current 2017 340i M Sport. Very excited about getting back in to a 5er after 15 years of 3ers/M3's. Mediterranean Blue is a beautiful color, slightly lighter than the Individual Tanzanite Blue on my 340i. Also went with Mocha Nappa and Aluminum trim which looks great in pictures.

To my surprise, the week 47 allocation went into production late last week....all good as far as I'm concerned. Apparently BMW is pulling up many US orders in case the 25% tariff gets imposed.

The dealer got everything I wanted, but I noticed that they left the option 22F All Season tires on F/R 19x8 style 664M wheels instead of the requested (at time of order placement) 21P staggered performance tires on 19x8 F and 19x9 R wheels. Now that the car is in 150 status they can't change the production order. I've already asked the dealer if they can correct this when the car arrives so still waiting to hear back from them. Any other suggestions? The staggered wheels are more important to me than the tires since I plan to swap out for go-flat summer tires in the spring and my winter tires are go-flats.

First, jealous, I have a wk46 and still at waiting for production and it's killing me. Second, you might get lucky as I've heard of some 150's getting minor adjustments and wheels are probably the easiest to change. Keep your fingers crossed, if your dealer signed off on the wheels you wanted they should right the wrong at the dealership at a minimum when it is delivered and prepared to hand over to you.

Didn't know it was possible to change anything once production started but wheels are one of the last assembly parts and should be easier as you say.

Is there any different appearance of the 19x8 vs the 19x9 wheel or is it all in the wider tire? Older BMWs I've had with staggered wheels it was clear the rear wheel was wider but seems not so obvious on the newer wheels, even my current 340i.

Jealous here too. I'm PW47 but still in order accepted state. Love Meditation Blue but I add IND merino Tartufo. Hope that doesn't hold things up. Thought about tax issue.

thats easy... get aftermarket wheels. for 540 you really need 20x10 in the back to look nice rather than 19x9s

the 20" 759i wheels look fantastic but roads here make bent rims very high probability. My winter wheels are 18" for that reason.

One thing to consider (other than just the wheels) is that when a Modern BMW comes with all seasons, the top speed is limited to either 120 or 130, cant remember which.

When you get performance tires, you get option 840 "increased top speed limiter" and top speed is 155.

Not like most of these cars in the US will ever see any of these speeds, but if the car is a keeper, its normally a no brainer to get the performance tires (and swap them out later if you want).

The increase in top speed cant be coded btw, has to leave the factory with that option if one cares.

All of this is current on all F series BMWs, and when I look at builds in vin decoders for G series, I still see option 840 there so I am sure this is still current info. OP you may not care.. but it may or may not be information you had.

I have never taken my BMWs near the 155 limit, but I know I "could" if I ever took them to the track.

Thanks for the heads up on this. For all the BMW's I've ordered, I wasn't aware of this factory coding and limitation. Then again, I've never had one come from the factory with A/S tires. This car won't be tracked so I'll probably never come close to the limiter, but it would have been nice to know it really was capable.

In any case, dealer will be swapping wheels/tires when it arrives. While it's nice that the car started production early, I always had option 21P performance tires specified.

(first post and first BMW!)

I am supposed to take delivery of my M550i tomorrow. It doesn't have the 668M wheels and I don't think I would want them during the winter months here in NJ - but is it possible to upgrade the wheels later as a part of the lease? Or would I need to buy them straight out and then sell them at the end (if I didn't want them anymore)?

I would talk to BMW financial or your dealer for clarification on this.

You can wrap anything you want into your lease financing, but unless it comes from the factory it wont be residualized.

What that means is, if the Residual is 60 percent, that means you are paying for 40% of what is stated the car is worth. This is why your payments are lower, you are only paying for 40% of the car (as BMW says it will be worth 60% of its value when you bring it back in 3 years if thats the residual).

Anything on the sticker is subject to that. So, if you get an M performance exhaust from the factory or port installed, and its ON THE STICKER on a lease, you only pay for the part that you use (in this example 40%).

ANYTHING installed by the dealer, or sold by the dealer can not be residualized. It CAN be added to the deal, but not residualized. That means you pay for 100 percent of whatever that option is.

So, if you get a spare wheel and tire set, it will be paid for 100% by you. You can throw it into your deal, but 100 percent of the cost will be born by you over the course of your lease. If it came from the factory, AND was on the sticker, then you would only pay for 40% of it.

Thats why sometimes people will pay for the M performance parts on a lease from the factory. As expensive as they are, they dont hurt as much if you only pay for 40% or 45 percent of it.

If a dealer tells you "we can just install that at the dealership" but its a part that COULD be installed at the factory, know that you will be paying for 100% of that particular option, and it wont be residualized.

TL : DR version

While you can add it to your financing (lease financing) you will be paying 100% of it, so it would be no different than going to the dealership and buying a set of rims and tires outside of the time you are getting your car (with the exception of bundling it into your financing for payments, making your payments higher vs paying for it outright).
