Tires Tires Tires
Saw the G05 in the flesh at the Dealer yesterday, unmistakably a X5. Agree with most of the positive reviews on looks and the interior. The grille is huge but it took me 5 seconds to get used to it and it fits the design language of the G05.
That said the only disappointment for me was the tires. (The wheel choices I might add are much better that the F90). The issue I have is stance. The G05 even in Msport is too buttoned down like the volvo XC90. The F15/E70 with the 315/325 in the rears sets them apart from all other SUVs in that segment. Even the 315 on the 21 inch G05 wheels look skinny. I love the cartoonish wide tires of the E70/F15 Msports. I hope they offer more aggressive tire options in the next model years.

Interesting. I wonder if it is just because the G05 is a wider and larger overall car than the F15. Because 315 rear tires are WIDE tires. 325 is only 10mm more, not a huge difference.
But I do agree that wider is better. I wouldn't mind seeing more rubber. I'm sure 325 size tires will fit just fine on the rear wheels if you want to upsize.

This may be a minor and trivial issue to most but wheels and tires is where I think BMW had most if not all the competition beat. (remember those deep dish E39 540i wheels back in the day)

Not a minor or trivial concern at all, and I'm right there with you! I ditched my X3 M40i in part bc of the stance/rear, coming from my F15 MSport with 315 rears. Ended up selling the G01 after six months and got an '18 X5M. Stance is killer!!
I've seen the G05 MSport with 22" and the rears do look weak for a 315 tire.

Let me know when you sell the x5m on the cheap and we can meet up in mechanicsburg. Need you to order new from my team. I still miss that meaty e70 msport stance so much. |

I was at the dealer the other morning and snapped a few pics because I've been wrestling between the 21 and 22's.

Sorry to come from a different perspective, but does anyone have real world photos of 20s on the 5.0?

I love those 22s! Can't wait to see them. Also thinking the wider the better. I'm going to look into spacers, per suggestion above.
There was a question asked earlier if wider tires fit on the 22's, is there a conclusive answer or is that rim specific, and conversation with tire supplier for future date? |

With those 22's you guys better get the warranty for tire/wheel through BMW. Those ghetto choppers are going to get bent up in no time.

22s look great - but not an option for me in the Northeast (Boston). Going with 19s. As BMW states on their configurator - for even the 20 inch rims: "20 inch wheels come with low profile tires, which reduce comfort and cushioning between the wheel and road. This can lead to increased risk of rim, tire, and suspension damage when driving over damaged road surfaces such as potholes." If I lived in a warm climate area, I'd go with bigger rims. As it is, I am already doing pot hole slalom on the way to work and its not even close to pothole season. |
