Wheels VS older body

Hi everyone, curious peoples opinions. I have a 2016 x5 today with the 19inch rims. If I get the new one with the 20’s is my ride going to be a lot more bumpy? More danger of a flat tire? Happy to hear people’s thoughts. Thanks

While i have an x5 on order and have driven with the 20s i opted for the 21s on mine. The reason being we also have a q7 and when we ordered were concerned about getting 21s.
With the q7 there have been no downsides and ride seems as good as i would expect. I am not sure if some opinions are based actual experience or just theoretical thoughts.

On the F15 the 19's were 255/50-19 on the G05 the 20's are 275/45-20

So that makes the sidewall height
F15 19's sidewall is 5'
G05 20's sidewall is 4.8"

So the amount of tire sidewall is almost the same which should give a similar ride based on the tire sidewall - tire brand and suspension will also contribute, but 20" tire should not contribute much vs the 19 on the F15. Same for flats, the 20's are not really a lower profile as they use a bigger diameter tire also.

Roadkill nailed it - there’s a difference between the 19s and 20s but it’s pretty marginal. I have 19s on my current 2013 X5 and am going to stick with 19s for the 2019 X5 I have on order. My reasoning was basically - I’ll take every bit of sidewall I can get. For comfort and for rim protection. Potholes and curbs here in New England are brutal and both family cars have seen tire and rim damage over the years.

I looked at both rims in person and liked the 19s better. It looked like the 19s we’re less exposed to curb damage as they were recessed more within the side wall.

If you went to you dealer’s lot, you could see for yourself - might be worth the trip to make sure you get something you’re happy with.
