How to prove a ring time!!!!!!!!!!
Chevy did it.....hard to argue with this video...no short laps, same start and finish line.....not the odd video that Nissan posted for the 7:38...... or the insane 7:29 time.... As I have said many time I call BS on the Nissan GTR...watching how few low speed corners there are on the ring and most of it is high speed high power sections which benefit a 638hp car....

There seems to be a bit of insecurity in the BMW camp here. This constant referring to GTR's time and HP as bullshit is sad, Nissan's video released of the 7:38 time is correct in every single way, I believe there is a video of the 7:29 time as well but haven't seen it myself.
The belief that the ZR1 time is more believable has me in fits , the only reason why the Corvette isn't getting the same flak is because it's the all-American sportscar so it's the great thing since apple pie and it's OK to have it quicker than the M3. The GTR is this quick and it's official horsepower is underrated. GET OVER IT. |

guys you are missing the point........... If it takes a 3300lb car with 638hp to run a 7:26...how can even a 550hp 4000lb car be only 2 seconds slower????? the little tricks Nissan employed to improve the GTR's numbers (short gearing, launch control etc) don't help much at the speeds around the ring....on a tighter track with slower corners it would help...keep in mind the mighty Veyron with at least 1001hp at 4300lbs runs 7:40....
The ZR1 video is high quality and easy to see.....with good car data embedded into it....you know Nissan has this type of info but doesn't release it.... This post isn't a "M3 is better than GTR" flame post.... its just a video that shows what a powerful lightweight car with huge brakes and tires can do around the ring....

As lucid already pointed out the Vette is a definite outlier in the power to weight regression analysis 7:40 predicted vs 7:26 delivered. It is not as much of an outlier though as the GT-R. Based on that I would not be a bit surprised if that ZR-1 that did that lap time was either under-rated or had some really special tires. No American pride here biasing my opinion. I'll stick to the science thank you.

How to prove a ring time?
A. Believe the videos (yes, even though the cars are tuned for the 'Ring no matter what anyone says i.e camber, toe) B. Go do it yourself (and considering noone on this board will be able to do that)... I'd say just believe all the hype with a grain of salt. |

On that long straight where the guy hits 175mph, was anybody else expecting him to atleast hit 200. The car just hit a wall it looked like. Is 638bhp not enough to hit 200 mph? Or was he just letting off.
Insane car by the way. Don't know what everybody is complaining about. Underrated, overrated, who gives a $hit. Atleast now you know how fast these cars are before you pull up next to one on the street. |

Hello people. These videos prove nothing.
The truth is coming out, it already is. GT-R and ZR-1 ring times are completely BOGUS. If ring times are going to be weighted so much all of sudden, we need standardization. |

Yeah, but we beat the Ring time standardization issue to death on the forum already. Even the SportAuto times are not standardized. They have ran cars under sub-par conditions and published the time.

I got the sense that he was catching some air at places so he was probably kind of freaked out by that!

Tell me, do you know what speed the Veyron did at that particular point?

He certainly caught air at 6:01 into the video, that jump in the middle of the braking zone is famous (or infamous).

Wow, that was amazing. That car is on the edge all the time. I can hear the engine roar as catches air at 6:12 and 6:14 and then he gets sideways at 6:33 and throws up his right hand. Just awesome!
I'd never seen either GTR video before but both GTR videos really capture the essence of that car. The GTR is fast but in comparison it looks tame and boring. I'm not saying that's a bad thing as most people would be dead in the ZR1 (which is probably also boring) but that is the way it looks. |

I wish I knew, I was pputting the question out there hoping someone had the answer. It can't be that much quicker because it's a full 14 seconds slower overall and if you think about it, if any car should be able to go quicker it's the Veyron.
As you said I too believe the limiting factor is the bumpiest of that part of the course and may be the reason why Nissan are only looking for a 4 second improvement from the V-spec version of the GTR, all of the improvement most be found in the corners and braking more so than on the straights. |

I will just say, they were not cars straight off the showroom floor. Both companies are not exactly being truthful.

Does it really even matter.. how many enthusiasts are going to be able to drive the GT-R or any car on the Nurburgring? How many are going to drive on the Ring to begin with?
Lastly, even if you could, are you going to complain because you couldn't get the same time on the track... I highly doubt a majority of the people who buy the GT-R or any car for that matter will be able to push the car like that, the car is damn fast along with it's competition. BTW Isn't every car timed the same way anyway? |
