Hopefully even better as it is a newer version of the motor, but yea that's a good starting point.

Very interesting. They didn't put as much Rice Krispies into the exhaust as the X4 M40i :p The M340i exhaust sounds meaner overall.

Man that sounds pretty good. Maybe they didn’t have it in sport/sport plus on the M340 or a preproduction thing?

That sounds really good! I swear the B58 is probably the best sounding inline-6 bmw engine..

Wow I just watched some more videos from that channel. The X4's exhaust actually sounds better than the M5.

I've driven both at the BMW UDE events the the N55 engine on the X4 crackles and pops a lot more compared to the X3.

You can hear the M340i accelerating on the race track at Portimao. Go to 4:00:

Sounds pretty aggressive for a non-M car!

That sounds good. There's also a startup at 23:50 that sounds insane, although I think the driver feathered the pedal a bit immediately after the engine started to make it louder.

as far as i can tell, the M340i has the same engine as the 340i MPPSK - they just built in the Power & Sound Kit instead of making it an add-on. The M340i has slightly higher top-end HP, but the same torque, which is probably the result of an ECU tweak?

All the M40i engines are the same.

There are lots of videos on the sound of the 340 MPPSK - I listen to it every day LOL. Sounds grrrreat!

There are different B58 versions. Yours is B58B30M0.

2019+ is B58B30O1: G20 M340i (US), Z4 M40i (US), and Toyota Supra.

Additionally not sure if the MPPSK exhaust system carries fully over to the m40i motors...

Maybe someone else with experience owning or driving both MPPSK and an M40i can lend clarity. For those like myself that have MPPSK on an f3X car there is a VERY pronounced difference between comfort and sport mode as 2 muffler bypass valves open... in sport it is LOUD. I haven't read similar commentary on the M40i around that feature so I just don't have the answer.... but it's a worthwhile question.

My suspicion is that the M40i is either a copy of mppsk or a hybrid version, not quite as insane as mppsk sport but more than comfort in everyday driving

Would be disappointing if the M40i was not as raucus as the MPPSK; I can’t go back to a quieter exhaust.

the mppsk is technically an after sales option so I can see it still being a notch above the stock m340. However if that is the case I can see bmw filling the gap with an even more aggressive performance part option.

I think the sound coming from the B58 is great. My dad has a X3 M40i and it delivers a great experience although I'm no SUV lover/driver at all.

In some of the video shots the M2C exhaust sound got pushed to the background by the accelerating M340i, which sounds deeper. I quite like it!

No good

It is as bad as on my current 435 f32, so disappointing, it was much better in the e9x.

Hey guys, I dug through some foreign language M340i reviews and hit the jackpot.

Go to 2min 18sec for a startup in Comfort mode and another one in Sport Plus mode.

Then go to 8min 40sec for another startup/revving clip.
