What are some iPhone apps that install a connected app when I connect my iPhone with a lightning cable? My G05 is my first BMW and am curious how it works.

Also I read somewhere on this forum that there is no longer a Spotify app in iDrive 7. Can someone confirm this.

When I called the Genius (not the Genius Bar, seriously, who's idea what this) they said that with iDrive7 and CarPlay, you need to use CarPlay for the apps.

(Not that I think this functionality is particularly useful. Just trying to test out the any 3rd party iDrive apps)

I can't get my connected drive compatible apps to show up in my car despite resetting iDrive, deleting and adding driver profile, using wireless and connecting phone by usb, clicking on update installed apps, nothing is installing or showing on my car's idrive. If anyone can help, would be much appreciated. Of course i chose the phone to be in iDrive mode not carplay mode.

Ok, any ideas how to get traffic info to update and weather widget to show? Neither of those working for me

Historically, Idrive supported two versions of apps. There were "cloud based apps" through connected services, and apps that were on your smartphone such as the BMW connected app and apps that supported BMW connectivity (TuneIN, Spotify, iHeart Radio, ....)

The video you reference is for the cloud based apps only.

From iDrive 7, BMW removed support for native smartphone apps unless its via Carplay.

Its ashame. Context switching between carplay and core idrive is a PITA.

Indeed, by following the video you don't get your iPhone apps. But the weather, news and RTTI for example can be activated (assuming your subscription has them).
