That's for the rear foglight which 90% of Americans have no idea what it is.

Therefore, BMW chooses that we do not need them.

You can buy the European version of the switch and get your rear fogs activated via coding.

Normally for cars that is not equipped with night vision, the button above it would be used for front fogs.

ah, ok, I tried googling rear foglight but can't seem to find the replacement. I have the wireless obd tool but haven't gotten the app for my phone yet.

edit
I'm usually pretty good at searching for things with google or the forums but I can't find a single switch replacement that has the rear fog button.

We Brits know about fog. Or so the rest of the world believes.

Rear fog lights help avoid rear shunts when visibility is poor. Helps drivers see stationery vehicles to help them brake earlier and see moving vehicles from a greater distance than with side position lights only.

Some Americans know about them 😁.
Had them on my Volvo and then Benz. Funny because Volvo did one on each side but Benz only did one on drivers side. Wish I had them since I found them VERY useful not only in fog but blizzards. Snow storms are something we know about on this side of the pond. Lol

Yes snow blizzard would be a legitimate use of them. In the U.K. they can only legally be used when visibility is 100m or less but that doesn't stop some people using them to burn your retinas in weather that doesn't dictate their use.

If this button is for night vision , where does it go when you have both front and rear fog light switches , such as my car?

You need to get creative if you are looking for European parts i.e: German Ebay. If that was a picture of your actual switch that you posted / with night vision, here is a link to a new switch for you. For G30, activating rear fogs requires some serious coding which you can not do with your OBD tool.

G30 European Headlight Switch

We might as well document this:

BMW G30 European Headlight Switch (w/ Front & Rear Fog light) Part #: 6841883
BMW G30 European Headlight Switch (w/ Night Vision & Rear Fog Light) Part #: 6841885

It will save you ton of headache if there is someone in your area that can code it for you. I can easily code the crap out of Audi / Porsche but I wont touch BMW.

I have the Carly App for regular stuff but that wont activate the rear fogs.

I saw some discussion on the other forum but it doesn't look like they figured out how to code the lights properly yet.

Night vision deletes the front fog lights and I am also pretty sure M550's do not have front fogs to start with.

This is also the case for the previous 5 series.

That stinks because they serve two totally different purposes. No reason they couldn't have installed both especially since you have that blank switch spot that started conversation. Lol

I am pretty sure that most of the current M cars do not have front fog lights but I see what you are saying.

NIVI doesn't delete front fogs anymore since Dynamic Light Spot is now incorporated into the headlamps. M550i doesn't have separate front fogs to begin with. Guiding Fog light is incorporated into the headlamps with VLD active. Low Visibility is automatically detected by KAFAS camera.

The M5 doesn't have fog lights because of the large air intake to cool the front brakes. VLD would be great but it is currently decoded at the factory for all US cars.

Back in 2005, I specifically ordered by R53 MINI Cooper S with the rear fog light. This would also give me a full 6 toggle switch bank in the dash.

My M550i does have front fog lights but I don't have night vision, so that entire panel is blank for me.

We did the same on our 2002 MCS and she is still with us.

I have ordered the Euro Light switch for pretty much all of my BMWs going back to 2006 before they were even delivered.

It is a pretty big safety item which should be part of standard features that BMW offers just like Volvo, Audi and Porsche does.
