Where have all the 4 series red cars gone?

Happy 2019 All,
I get the impression that most of the cars on this forum seem to be Black or Blue especially the 4 series. When I take my regular sojourns up and down the M5 & M6 all I seem to see is black 3s and 4s with a smattering of white, grey and silver with the occasional blue. I guess a lot of the motorway traffic are company cars. Never seen a Melbourne Red 4 series in the flesh, anyone got one, its featured on the BMW ads and to my mind looks a gorgeous color!

Just seems to be out of fashion these days. That was the good thing about Estoril Blue, it was a lovely colour and not just another variation on monochrome.

I had a red car once... was the most rewarding colour to have for detailing I found.

I prefer the darker reds than Melbourne though, like Imola Red on the E46 3 series, and Carmine red that Porsche use commonly for the GTS models.

Red fades to pink after a few years in the sun, no exceptions

I used to have one, wrote it off unfortunately. In the ~11 months I had it I only saw probably 2 or 3 other red 4s in/around London

I guess it's just not fashionable is the reason as much as anything else

Most 'premium' cars tend to be in darker more restrained colours (with the exception of the ubiquitous white) these days

Although I'm not a big fan of aftermarket styling, I think the Melbourne Red works best when contrasted with some black bits and bobs, splitter, skirts etc. Otherwise it doesn't look very special.

If I'd have gone for a Coupe I'd have gone for Melbourne Red but as I got a much better deal on the GC, Red wasn't an option unfortunately.

Our first BMW was a E46 325i M Sport Coupe in Imola Red. Loved that car.

The BMW GB choice of colours is ridiculously dull. Merc do a nice red on the E class but BMW just seems to be shades of grey and a blue thrown in.

It’s about time BMW introduced some new colours.

You've got sunset orange and snapper rocks blue now, and there's always the individual route if none of those take your fancy.

This was only the case when cars were painted with two-pack paint. This isn't the case anymore as the majority of modern cars are painted and then lacquered.

Red just isn't a common colour as the vast majority of consumers want white, black or silver

They do exist. I often see a red 4 series in the far corner of the Tesco's carpark where I normally park. It's got a full M Performance pack on it too and the black on red looks quite good.

I generally like red cars and I'd have been tempted myself but for me BMW'S red isn't metallic enough so I went for silver in the end.

It's the black and white no cost colours that seem to predominate.

Or in Vauxhall's case the noughties...

The less red cars on the road the better for me(unless it's a Ferrari of course). There aren't many examples that I can think where the car doesn't look of a cheaper class when it's painted red.

Probably doesn't help that I'm a passionate Leeds United supporter either!

Yes your comment clearly applies to this 1970s Vauxhall

Once the car has been washed a few times and the clearcoat becomes worn then its all downhill from there. Anything else has been stored in a garage out of the sun. No exceptions
