Question 328i being replaced with 330i ?!

Hey guys,

I was just reading through the BMW Media Information guide (link: http://www.e90post.com/goodiesforyou/new-e90.pdf ) for the 2009 e90, which basically describes all the changes in the LCI and noticed there was no 328i listed as one of their ten engines in their line up. The guide also went on to say the car was featuring "revised range of engines" for the LCI.

I know there have been rumors about the 330 replacing the 328 for the LCI, so does this verify that rumor? or is this a Media Information guide aimed at the world market, not the U.S., so the 328 wouldn't be mentioned?

PS I would flip out if a 272 hp 330i replaced the 328i

That link has info for European models. If you go to www.bmw.com and check out the engines for models in the UK, you'll see the similar range of engines.

Plus, HP and torque are reported in Metric units (KW, NM), not US units.

Looks like "No", with the recent BMW press release.

Cheers,

if they do this. this would piss many 328 customers, just like how they did with the 325. What the hell is wrong with BMW marketing team? can't determine what they want.

Are they bringing the DI engines to the US? I thought there were concerns about our gasoline not working so well with the DI engines.

FWIW, 272 HP metric = 268 HP (SAE). Not a big difference, but if we're talking about this car in the US, we should use the US number.

A bit OT, but also keep in mind that a European (DIN) horsepower is not the same as a U.S. (SAE) horsepower. To obtain a U.S. power output of an engine, divide the European HP value by 1.0139. This is why the same engines are listed in Europe as having a higher HP output than their American counterparts.

Read the sticky at the top of the page. There are 3 engines for the 3 series in 2009. The 328i 3.0 liter with 230hp and the 3.0 liter twin turbo with 300hp. These are the same as in 2008. Lastly is the new for US turbocharged diesel.

Thanks, Mike.

EHh, I am ready for the disappointment of getting an early car but I plan to overcome that dissapointment by giving it some modern looks.

I dont think you are going to see any moniker changes till the next version of the 3 series comes out.

Over the last few series it was once change and thats it. The 330 is still in existance in Europe so that is where the 330 comes in in that document. I think that is a Euro only doc because there is no 328i there, and they list every single engine that we dont get here as well.

I hope they dont bring it back I like my 330 being unique, I see a bunch of 325/328 and even 335's but not many 330's
