Stromung Exhaust Review...
Thought it would be better if I put this in a seperate thread...
Just finished installing my Stromung exhaust tonight and if I had any doubts they are all gone. The exhausts fits and sounds awesome. The quality of this exhaust is very good, the fitment and the welds are very clean (yes they could have been polished as palantirion mentioned) but you never seen the welds unless you got your head underneath the car so its not an issue for me. Install was very easy and after talking to Scott from Stromung it made the install very simple to get adjusted how I wanted. The factory exhaust uses a floating flange system which allows for alot of play. Before you tighten everything down, you just need to make sure the exhaust is lined up where you want it. Once its where you want it, just tighten each bolt alternating from side to side so it doesnt tighten one side more then the other and cause the exhaust to move or not create a proper seal. Its very logical and simple really. The tips are very nice and are 3" in diameter compared to 2.5" stock. They actually look very OEM. The best part for me is that I no longer see that damn stock exhaust hanging down like a pair of nuts. As I said the tips look very OEM especially the size. However I would have liked the tips to be slightly larger for more of an aftermarket appearance. Putting the exhaust on really makes you notice how ugly the stock system is. Lastly the sound, its not as loud as I thought it was going to be which I like. I really didnt want an exhaust that would drown out the sound of the engine as I love hearing the S54 rev up. You still can hear the engine but now the car has a nice deeper growl. I still havent driven it on the highway to see if it drones at a constant speed, but so far I havent noticed anything. The sound is just deeper and a little louder. I would say if you are looking for a louder exhaust this one is not the way to go. I personally really like the sound, its just loud enough for my tastes. You can tell the car has an exhaust put I can still hear myself think. Plus I didnt want to render my blue tooth useless. Overall for the price and quality you can go wrong with this exhaust |

Glad to hear that. I can't wait for mine to come in. Like you, I don't want an obnoxiously loud system, or one that creates a resonating sound that would boom and/or drone. I talked to Scott last week about the install and he told me about the flange, which makes the install easy to visualise. This is why I was surprised at the other post about the "misalignment". I know it's a little early, but did you notice any loss in torque down low?

I actually first tightened the exhaust down without adjusting it and it was hanging down an inch too low just like as seen in the other post. It just needs to be held up a little while you tighten it. When you install it you will see what I mean.
No I havent noticed any gains or loses. To be honest I doubt the exhaust changes the performance for better or worse. Its really only a set of mufflers. |

Yea, I don't think it will change performance much; I've installed cat-backs on my Corrado and Celica, and hardly felt anything. The GTI was different, of course.
However, Scott said that there might be a slight shift in the torque curve. No loss in power suits me just fine.

Hey DiscoZ,
Where are you located in T.O? and when are you getting your exhaust? I'm on the group buy list but didn't want to pull the trigger until I heard it in person and confirmed there is no power loss. Anyways if you need a hand installing let me know and I'd be glad to help out. Cheers, Zoomby_U |

I threw the exhaust on last night, had no issues with the fit or the alignment; went on very easy actually.
It sounds great, really bassy down low and then it mellows out on top - very smooth sound. One cannot really gauge how an exhaust sounds from revving at idle with a tinny camera mike. I drove the car today on the freeway; no drone really in 6th at ~ 100-110km/h (~60-65mph). Will post more up on it later on, once it breaks in some more. I didn't really notice any increase/decrease in power. It does seem to have smoothened up the power delivery up top a bit, but that could just be the aural experience misleading me. I like the size of the tips, I personally think that it's the right size - they are big enough and the tips themselves are thick.

I just have to add that the more I have this exhaust, the more I like it. It is just loud enough, and so deep. It sounds like a true sports car, not a race car. It doesn't drone at highway speeds and here is the best part.........my gas mileage has increased from 21.5 combined to 23 combined a 1.5 mile per gallon increase.

Give them a call. It is not listed on their webpage, we did a group buy. Ask for Scott, tell him you are from zpost and see if he will add you to the group buy price.
