You could ask but I'd also guess nobody would notice unless it was installed wrong.

How would insurance know if you have an upgraded steering wheel? Unless they check your VIN and know exactly the difference between steering wheels offered by BMW. Under my VIN, it says "sport steering wheel option" they wouldn't know which one that is or how it looks like, heck most people working at BMW don't know the difference between sport and m-sport. Also I don't think insurance would care what airbag/steering wheel you have, that does not contribute to the accident.

How would the insurance company know?
I doubt they'd be using BME techs to examine an accident.
Did you have to code the car after installing?
