So my wife's 2014 X3 wouldn't start this morning coming out of Starbucks. The car hadn't been used in a week (and it was really cold here), but it started right up first thing in the morning, but wouldn't restart after sitting outside Starbucks for an hour.

The car would crank -- but not start. Also the iDrive screen was blank. After calling me for advice (had to use handset -- bluetooth didn't work either) of which I had none, she exited the car and got back in. This time the iDrive screen came to life (before even trying to start the car) and the car started.

Doesn't seem battery related (as the car cranked adequately) -- more like some modules of the car recognized her key and others didn't. Anyway the car is in the shop now getting diagnostically scanned. Any ideas if they don't find anything?
