335Dx Gearbox gearchanges jerky
Hi all,
My 30k mile F30 with a Z8F sport box. I noticed a few times, while in sport mode and when I manually change the gears, they appear somehow very aggressive, almost like a thud or jerk, if you know what I mean. ( for thos that drove an M car with an SMG box at max sensitivity, if feels a bit like that) Im not sure if this is normal, or maybe its a fault of mine as I change the gear say in full throttle on peak load around 4k rpm so the engine doesn’t have to rev as much as it would in auto. But If I leave it in fully auto and she revs by itself, the gear changes are smooth?? Any experience from other N57 users? Thanks |

I had the exact same concerns when I bought my 435d and asked the same question. The general response that I got was that’s it’s completly normal, and to be fair a year down the line there’s been no issues and it still does it. Don’t worry about it.

Never had a ZF8 that thudded gears home in any setting, doesn't sound normal at all, if it feels like an SMG box at max attack then there is something wrong.

make sure the vehicle is on level ground before reset. This may work. |

Agree the shifts are a little harder in sport mode, although the only time I would describe it as jerky is when the weather is cold and you first set off. This smooths out long before the engine is up to temperature though.

Nothing wrong with mine I think you misread my post, my point was if it feels like an SMG on max attack then there is something wrong as S6 gear changes with an SMG box feels like the rear axle is going to get ripped off.

Thanks for the reply.
I shouldn't have said jerky, but yeah rather aggressive gear change that you can feel a thud from a gear change. As if I dumped the clutch, like a not a smooth engagement. Only happens in manual mode and at peak boost. In auto is fine. Its not the first Zf8 box for me aswell as I had a 535d before and I dont remember it doing it so "sporty"! Not gone compare missus's 320d with the same box obviously due to lack of torque, probably unable to do it even if you try your best to replicate it. I'll do a reset and the adaptation first and see how it goes. Thanks |

When driving with spirit I usually just leave mine in sport mode and gearbox in sport auto. It must be a 'manual' mode function as when I put it in manual mode mine begins doing it.
It's funny that you say that about your Mrs's 320d. I had an F30 320d first before I bought my 335d X drive, and I don't remember the 320d doing it. I suspect it might be a combination of the torque the 335d puts through the ZF box compared to the 320d and also a bit of software dramatics. |
