X3 M40d rival

Audi have just announced a new diesel version of the SQ5. The non redacted release as below, which makes strange reading in places.

https://www.netcarshow.com/audi/2020-sq5_tdi/

I suspect the price will be higher than the equivalent X3 M40d after discounts. Also the Q5 does not have a heated steering wheel option, which is a must have for me.

It will be interesting to see the test reviews when released.

About time they brought back the diesel makes sense in a car like that.

Wow! When did a heated steering wheel become a must have option?

How times have changed!

I suffer with extremely cold hands in winter and its now a must have for me. I can understand others not being bothered if their hands are okay in winter.

The USA version of the Q5 gets a heated steering wheel, but not the UK.

I always liked the previous version with its biTdi engine. 700nm sounds ok to me..

Raynaud's syndrome? I have a friend who suffers with that really badly in the cold so much so that he needed heated gloves on cycle rides in the colder months.

Having seen his hands then yes it's a must have for you.

Wow that's quite some spec, 347hp & 700NM with mild hybrid and an electric turbocharger!

0-62 is still 0.2 secs slower than a standard M40d though!

Until they realised not many people were buying them.

The SQ5 actually started life as a diesel, moved to petrol but has now gone back to diesel again. To be honest I think in many respects an SUV is better suited to a diesel so no complaints from me; however, just hope cars like the S4 don't follow the SQ5 trend when they're reintroduced!

I can see why people would pick the diesel but to me the refinement of the petrol is in another league, and I wouldn't be picking the diesel over it.

Suspect though that the residuals of the petrol will take a hit as a result of the announcement - glad I have the GFV to rely on....

Has the petrol been permanently dropped then? So not a case of them offering the option as is the case with the X3 40i and 40d?

Apparently going to offer both, but expect the diesel to be the common one / big seller

I read the S4 is going to be a derv so could very well be it has this engine WLTP joys.

Fully agree with the first bit, but unsure about residuals on petrol. Looking at Autotrader, the residuals on the X3 diesel look extremely frightening to anyone selling.
