UUC Evo3 shifter
I just had this shifter installed on the car last week. Initially the feel was amazing. Very smooth shifts and very defined feeling to gates. Today I noticed it felt a lot more 'cluncky' and 'notchy. For those with this shifter did anyone else experience this?

I called UUC today and was told the problem is likely that the C-clamp has come off and I need to reinstall it. The problem is that I can't pull the knob off because the whole assembly wants to come up with it.. Any tips on how to get the knob off??

Problem solved. Thanks for the great advice..
The dislodged C-clip meant that the hearder you pulled the more the whole shifter assembly and the shifter linkages came up out of the shifter area. I don't think you guys were understanding what I was asking. In case anyone runs into this problem again the real advice would be to hold the shift assembly down with one hand to keep it from coming up and pull up on the shift knob with the other as hard as possible. |

C clip installed and the notchy feeling is gone and it feels like it did when it was first installed. I guess this was a difficult question to relay to others. I knew that if it felt fine initially and became notchy it was unlikely to be a break in issue.

Just feel lucky that your knob doesn't come off easily, seems that pisses a lot of people off.

Although this thread has been long dead, I wanted to post a KUDOS to UUC, and through "search" decided this was the most appropriate thread to do so. I purchased a Z4 M coupe in July from a member of this board that had installed the UUC EVO3 short shifter. Ever since I picked up the car I had found when down shifting to 4th from 6th, it was always a crap shoot whether I would either hit 2nd, 4th or stay in 6th.
This seemed strange, and I am not a new driver, nor am I unfamiliar with manual transmissions, having learned to drive on a 1953 TD MG almost a half century ago. So, I was perplexed at this shifter vagueness I experienced, especially after having read all the reviews of the EVO3 on this and Bimmerfest sites. So, when I had the car into Simply BMW in Bellevue Wa. (great shop and by far the best experience I have had when compared to Northwest BMW in Fife and Seattle BMW in Seattle, neither of which impressed me), I asked them to take a look at the shifter and see if it was installed properly or might be adjusted. They discovered that the locking ring on the height adjustment was missing and this was causing the vagueness I was feeling and suggested I contact UUC and get a new ring to correct the problem. When I called UUC and explained what I needed, they--JOHN-- was concerned that there might be other issues and decided I would be better served if he sent an entire EVO3 assembly. I explained that I was not the original purchaser, and I did not expect for them to be so generous in their customer service. John responded that he did not want to have any of his products out here that were not performing up to their standards and felt the best way for them to insure proper performance was to replace and ship the entire unit at no cost to me. Frankly, this is the finest customer service I have ever experienced and want to make sure others are aware of my experience and my highest recommendation for UUC as a customer oriented premier supplier.
