BMS JB+ issues / new real tune ?

Hi,

I have a 1st gen BMS JB+ piggyback, and on cold weather it throws few codes.
The car runs fine tho, I don't feel like it loose power nor any hesitation.

Trying to get help with BMS, but of course they won't be from any help since they told me '' its too old, sorry no help on that device'' , wtf ! Just like if I go to BMW dealer with a E46 M3 and they refuse to help me because its too old... Lame af. So I'm not going with a new gen JB4 for sure.

Start looking with local dealer, and they pretty much told me the same, get away on them if you're out of warranty.

One dealer got a pretty decent tune, Euro Charged, for 1000$ cad.
Any comments ? I'm looking for a small/reliable/cheap tune. Just like Unitronic for VW/Audi; they are conservative and cheap.

Get a flash tune. Piggy backs rely on tricking the ECU and sending it false values, that can throw codes like that.

yeah, most people got the same issue with their M235 or 335, n55 based bmw.

The shop told me 85hp/100tq , while the website show :

Quote:
Performance Numbers:
The manufacturers rating for this engine is 300HP and 300LB-FT of torque.

The Eurocharged rating for the ECU upgrade is 360HP and 394LB-FT of torque.
Looks like they do custom tunes based on EuroCharged tune. He told me that he can add burbles....

All Im looking for , is something cheap and reliable (conservative), so I can be a bit faster than a stock N55.

EDIT : so I took a chat with a guy, and BMW ECU can be custom flashed, with custom maps, as per the owner/tuner needs. The guy told me he's a long time bmw enthusiast, and he's 100% confident with his method, I've asked him a conservative tune. In comparison with big names, he told me this is 360bhp and 380tq on stock engine.

He's charging time to enter values in the ECU , and that's it... Way way way way way cheaper.

i'll ask him few more question before going that way.

I was looking for something like this on Audi, but it was almost impossible to owner tune the car themself, even cobb took years to provide a module for b7-b8.

Best proven flash tune is MHD.

Best proven? How so? Evidence to back that up or passing an opinion as fact?

My opinion obviously but based on lots of experience. I’ve used several tunes on my N54 335 including Dinan, Cobb, JB4, and finally MHD. For me MHD was the best flash tune by far. It had the most cracked ECU tables, provided the most tuning flexibility, and made the most power.

There are multiple OTS MHD tunes plus tons of individual tuners available who can provide custom pro tunes depending on your tuning goals. MHD supports X3s with the N55.

last night I took about 3 h on google/youtube/forums about this MBH tune.

In deed, it seems a very nice product for the price, fast and easy to use.

Most reviews were positive.

N54 tune is dirt cheap (150$), N55 not so cheap. About 400$-500$ usd ( licence 250$, maps 100$, cable 50$ and optional monitoring app 100$).

Option 2 : I also get into custom tuning for expert, and the licence cost 20$ usd, then you copy the original ecu map, and do modification by yourself. You need a k+dcan cable, laptop, and the the bmw flash/edit software.

I'm not skilled enough, but the local guy I found is. And this is why he can do the flash for cheap, and he can also remove it, ''no trace''.

I also learned that I have the electronic waste gate actuator, so good news . must be a early engines with this since its a 2013.

I'm surprised that not more member are discussing about this MHD, not a ton of info over all forums, and from what I'M reading its warranty safe ???? Don't take it for cash, its as per owner review. They flash back the OEM map before going to dealer and they were fine.... And this, in less time to remove a piggyback !

Of those listed I'd agree MHD is the best. I was going to use MHD to flash my x3 but i've had 3 friends (2 E9x and an F30) brick their DME with it, so I chose to stay away.

I do not know this information about MHD so it may be comparable but, BM3 N55 testing took about 6 months so its a pretty safe tune.

To my knowledge, no BM3 car 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/X/Z/M has blown up yet. I know of 2, local cars to me, that have blown up on MHD OTS maps.

I'm not trying to sell BM3 here, but in my experience id go BM3 over MHD.

No flash tune is untraceable, as soon as you change DME software the car knows and keeps log of it. If BMW plugs your car into their software, they will know. You can sometimes get away with JB4 but you must remember that BMW techs are human beings and can easily pick up on it and flag the warranty.

Morale of the story is: If you're worried about your warranty, do not tune your car. You can get away with bolt ons but once you change software BMW and your warranty wont take to kindly to it.

Even on old ecu got a counter flash?

Anyway, no worry, mine is a 2013, warranty is done in 2 months.

As soon has the lock/encryption on the DME is broken, the car knows and will store that information. It does not matter if you revert it to stock tune and re-lock the DME, it will still show its been tampered with. On the newer cars it can actually beacon that information to BMW and have your warranty voided the moment you start to flash the car.
