Selling your BMW to a BMW dealership?
I've been contemplating selling my X3 for a while now and after 2 months on C-List, I've gotten maybe 3 inquires. I think it's priced fairly but because it's a 2012, I'm thinking getting financing for it is the problem. I inquired my local dealership and they said they could appraise it in about 10 minutes. I'm sure I won't get the best price, but I'm really okay as long as I don't go under.
Does anyone have experience selling their car to a BMW dealership (or any dealership for that matter) and can share how it went? *I'm talking about strictly selling, not trading in or anything. |

Wow, 3 months and only 2 inquiries? I did not know these were that hard to sell used. Why would the dealer want it? Dealers do not typically keep trade ins that old - they go straight to auction. Try CarMax as well so you at least have two prices. But the differential between what you are asking on CR and what you will be offered wholesale may be great enough that you may be better off slashing your CR price and seeing if you get it sold. Then there is the issue of whether you have staged the car well for the CR pics, etc.

Craigslist is okay, but when I was looking, I used cars.com, kbb, edmunds, autotrader for allot more sellection. I'm not sure what they charge to list, but it would get allot more exposure than CL. The dealer is not going give you much unless you have a pristine lower mileage example and even then, they're looking to make a good profit, so don't expect too much. Spring is a sellers market, so the interest should start picking up. GLWS

I had to sell my '97 Impreza because my left leg could no longer handle the clutch pedal. Carmax made it easy.
Years before that (pre-internet) I advertised a '66 MGB roadster in the paper and suffered thru weeks of phone messages, no answer, no-shows, no cash, trade-in offers, families with children needing sustenance and restrooms...... never again. Sold it to a friend, cheap. |

I sold my 07 X3 to Carmax and got a fair enough deal. Whole thing took like an hour between when I drove up and when I had the check in my hand.

Trade in was 10,000. Tried 9,000 but i said no and that all the maintenance was up to date and also i detailed the car before. Only CarMax would buy your car without you buying something, unless you had a rare vehicle the dealer knew someone was waiting for. I did look on craigslist and an X3 with more miles and 1 year younger didn't sell for over 6 months. I didn't want to take a chance and just traded it in.
