M340i xdrive vs X3M

So both are rated at 0-60 in 4.1 seconds but X3M cost $10,000 more with similar options.

Now that's hard to justify

You better believe they will be cross shopped and what is a "real M" anymore...
I bet the m340i handles better

For those looking for a 4 door AWD vehicle for a dd with a family it's an interesting comparison.

The M340i will be lighter by 400-600 lbs, more agile, but as far as carving canyons I might hazard to say the X3M would be better. It will surely have better steering and dramatically better suspension design which will translate into driver confidence. I had an M235i and now back to E92 M3 and the true M difference is enormous. Also, if the X3M can only do 4.1 0-60 that will be a shocker. The X5M does it in 3.8 with a 1/4 mile time of 12.2 per C&D.

BUT these are drastically different vehicles so what's the point? Either you want an SUV or you don't. If you aren't sure between M-performance and M, the G80 M3 isn't too far off.

They are both great vehicles. This was my pros and cons on the two:

+M340i has the new live cockpit technology
+M340i is lighter
-M340i low car ground clearance
-M340i trunk loading
+X3M Merino leather M sport seats

I am also debating X3M vs M340i:
X3M doesn't have Laserlight or the newer parking assist
M sport seat with Merino MAY be available in the 3 if you go with individual
Probably wait till M3 and 2020 550/X550 with the new engine.

I can't wait for real world reviews. The pricing is on point and I think folks will be shocked at the performance level. It's going to be much faster then BMW advertises for spirited runs and can double hauling your family of 5 and gear. It's a totally different animal than a M340i which IMO, is once again best in class. I expect no less in the X3M/X4M.

The X3M is the perfect Jekyll and Hyde!

If only the US got an M340i Wagon. That would be a real comparison.

I will add this bit of a comparison. We currently have an 2018 340i xDrive with MPPSK and Dinan Elite V2 and a 2018 X3 M40i with a JB+. The 340i is suppose to be mine, the M40i is suppose to be her's...I find myself driving her M40i way more than my 340i as it is much more comfortable, the visibility is much better sitting up higher, and it scoots right along when the go pedal is pushed.

We usually get something new every two years. I have to say that I can easily see us trading the 340i and M40i on a new X3M sometime next year and then getting something else to drive on the side when a second car is needed. The hi-perf SUV fits our lifestyle so much better than a hi-perf sedan or sports car does without a doubt, even if it costs another 10 grand.

You're getting substantially more car & TONS more fun in the X3 M. Also, with LC people are often seeing 3.6 - 3.8 (0-60 MPH) runs. That nice B58 will never compare to the S58.

People are seeing lower 0-60 than that in the F97. Even C&D was able to clock a 3.3 0-60.

Bone stock, formal drag slips, no. Appears confusion exists with the 1ft roll-out, which is what C&D used if that is what you're quoting. My fastest time which yielded the formal 11.640s 1/4 mile was (by simultaneous Dragy) 3.57s 0-60mph, but 3.3xs with the Dragy 1ft rollout calc. https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...8&postcount=52

Need to be sure comparing similar values.

Regardless of rollout, using C&D as a measure for both cars, the F97 is faster everywhere, brakes and handles better.

That isn't being debated (recall we traded in both of our G01 X3M40i models for our X3MC's for that very reason). Simply clarifying that there is a major difference when using 1ft rollout numbers vs 'usual' 0-60mph data when comparing vehicles. Suspect Kevin_The_Clean1 wasn't using the 1ft rollout figures you are referencing, so he was accurate following that data set.

Understood. I still don't get the 1ft rollout and why sometimes it's used and sometimes it's not. There are posts on this forum quoting Draggy results based on 1ft rollout so there is no agreed consensus on what 0-60 times are being presented.
