Accidental discovery: A/C

Yesterday morning, out to the grocery, I had turned off my climate control. It had been on AUTO at 68 F. Then on the drive home, thinking I was reaching for the stereo volume, I instead turned up the left climate control dial, the one that controls the temperature. Badda-bing! The A/C came on, AUTO as before, same settings, except that -- since I'd turned the control up a bit -- the left side temp was now 70 F.

So BMW gave us yet another way to turn on the air-conditioning! Every week I get into a new discovery about this complex car.

Think of it like Microsoft. They give you at least two ways of doing whatever you want to do in Windows, Word, Excel, etc.: Edit -> Copy or Ctrl-C. (I use the latter.) Apparently BMW thinks the same way.

Need an Easter egg for how to sync the dual zone climate control. They should have thought of that instead. Just turn the drivers temp control and the AC turns on automatically and the dials sync to the temp the driver dial was set to and move in sync until someone turns the passenger dial. To re sync you turn off the AC and move the driver dial again.

If you do that every time you need to turn on the A/C, over the life of your ownership of the car, you will have saved yourself an entire 1/2 of a second in total with that short cut.

I understand, but what I am saying is, in this forum that has advanced discussion such as how to tune the b58 and others, have a thread about air conditioner turning on. Which I would assume most f30 owner knows this as they must have had the same "accident" you experienced

It's just funny, like a white horse in the mud..

Very simple mod - broccoli rubber band between two dials. Comes in matching BMW blue

Ahh yes but this may cause excessive wear on the knob which would of course, not be covered under any sort of warranty

They are always dual. The G20 has sync but it has to be done from the I drive, or maybe you can program one of the preset buttons.

I also found that if you use the app to start vent mode when you get into the car and start it up the AC is on even if you had it off when you shut off the car.

You mean when you turn the dial while the AC is off or using a mobile app to vent? I don't think it does this on my other car and there is no app.
