JB+ Install on X2

Thought I'd share some pics on installing a JB+ on X2. It's pretty responsive now. I believe the stock engine is OK, but let down by the gearing and programming of the Aisin transmission. It seemed to miss a step now and then.

Only do this when the engine is cold and have the key fob out of the area.
  1. Undo the 10 mm nuts that hold the plastic plenum that directs air from the grill to the air filter box.

  2. It's hard to undo the gray tab that secures the connector by pulling down with your thumbnail. It's hard getting your hand down there at all. Instead, take a flat screwdriver, push on the tab downward along the same axis. Only gentle pressure so you don't stab yourself with the screwdriver.

  3. Install the JB+ in line, push the gray tabs in, make sure they're tight and reinstall plenum.

I am considering the options of JB+ vs. JB4. I'm also curious how the install of the JB4 would be like on my X2 Xline28i since it is more involved than the JB+.

I haven't done much research on it for these motors specifically.. but on the N55 motor the JB4 was 3 plugs (the others were optional for flex fuel and electronic wastegate). Not a ton harder than just one plug. The JB+ has always been just a boost controller turning it up a little bit.

I wanted cheap, simple, and a little more hp for a little more responsiveness. A quick jab on the throttle and a you get a little lurch forward. No pin you to your seat, power sliding, tire smoking action.

Good job on the write up. For anyone debating, it's a must-have mod for the X2. If you can't justify the price, wait to buy a used one.

Run the JB4 on map 2 and you're going to get a much, much more responsive car. You'll notice the power increase as well.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread.
But AllEyesOnMe , which JB4 are you using?
Do you have any idea if N20/N55 JB4 will work with X2 B48 engine?
Its because there are couple of folks selling used JB4 on the bay that I'm interested with.

Also, make sure it's for the transverse mount B48. Just because it'll fit B48 doesn't mean it'll fit the X2. Best bet is to take a photo of the item or ask for the model # and have BMS take a look at it.

How did you secure it so that it doesn't come in contact with the fan? I just tucked mine in a bit but not sure....
