What do you think?
Imo the styling, from the front at least, is as much of a step backwards as the drivetrain layout!! The transverse mounted engine does make me cry inside though! Last edited by teaston; 05-26-2019 at 05:39 PM.. |

The overall styling is way too busy for my liking. Thing is this seems like the way forward for BMW, gone is simple elegance in favour of cuts, slashes and vents randomly dotted about. Actually if you took the kidney grilles and badges off, I'd have said it's a new Hyundai or Kia, especially in that side shot. Also interesting that the DRLs on these new 1 Series are more like the original halo rings than the G20 is getting with those funy little Golf DRLs.
But then again what do I know? They'll probably sell shed loads of the things

The BMW styling is going through a very bad phase! The X3 grilles were the start of it, and it’s just getting worse with every new model they release currently! |

Exterior styling will always be personal preference, the interior is a huge step up though, from both the old 1 series and the current Focus. Nice to see it doesn't give much away to the G20 other than space. I quite like it to be honest, of course the key test will be when it is driven.

I actually love it. Looks more roomy inside as well. Driving experience wise let's wait and see. Xdrive option available for those who can't stand FWD.

Not a huge fan, maybe it's a grower. Issues so far:-
- The front end in general - Gawping smile mouth on that M135i - Bonnet cut lines a la F series in a 2020 model! Ye gods!! - I'm sorry a power tailgate in a hatchback, the smallest car you make BMW really??? - Obviously general outrage at Transverse and FWD + Haldex once again let's abandon general principles and follow where AUDI lead. Sheesh - Those Wheel designs on both models are 100% shite - This be In off topic tsk tsk Likes - The M135i Seats are rather nice - The comments on Facebook are very amusing 97.3% pure hate for it BMW are making some terrible looking cars nowadays. Fair play it takes a special skill to make so many different cars look bad. Some are getting away with it but what gorgeous cars are there left?

The headlights are very A class shape and the rear gives you X2 kind of impression : I think it's just the way bumper looks, not for me though

I maybe the minority here but i actually like it.
Turbo 4, 4 wheel drive with honeycombe grill, and a nicer interior - its basically an Audi S3.... which is not a bad thing. Sure the turbo 6 is gone... but its the way the world has been going for the past decade...m135 still sounds good... which is more than can be said once it goes electric! And i think the m sport seats and interior lighting is well smart! |

It looks a bit generic, so like any other typical hot hatch, so I don't think it's bad looking as such, just not like a BMW particularly.
It did make me think of the 2AT from the front too. Inside looks nice, and a big step up from the F20. For most buyers the overall offering will be preferable due to packaging.

This is why I've just bought one of the last M140is. It arrives on Friday.
