Bought a CPO '15 328i Yesterday - Issues Already

Hi guys,

I'm happy to be back in a BMW after selling my E46 330ci six years ago. Looking forward to being active here on the forums.

I purchased a CPO 328i with xDrive and took delivery yesterday.

I noticed that it idles rough when when I'm on the brake and in Drive (it idles "normal" in Park). The seat and steering while actually vibrate noticeably to the sound being made - you can hear it get a bit rough once shifting into Drive. I recorded a short video - you can hear / feel the vibrations starting at the 2 second mark. Any thoughts on if this is normal?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOzW_iPFtPI

During the CPO process they were supposed to fix an issue with the car pulling to the left on the highway, so they performed an alignment. The wheel is now aligned straight but it now pulls left to an even greater extent I would say. Any thoughts on if this could be a camber issue or something else?

Lastly - the car honks twice when I unlock it. The dealer said it's a coding issue so I have to bring it back for them to fix that.

Cheers - appreciate any feedback.

Can't really hear anything in that video. The n20 engines are very loud at idle. The almost sound like a diesel

Vs buying new? There's plenty of new car buyers that have issues as well. There's still warranty either way. I'll let the suckers like you take the hit on depreciation.

As for OP just bring it in to dealer and have them take care of it. Good luck!

I would buy used non CPO but with original warranty still active and buy an extended warranty. My friend brought a 2015 428i with just under 50k miles for 19k and extended the warranty I'm assuming for 2 years or 100k miles. Might not have necessarily been a steel but CPO may have cost more. And I think this way the warranty is actually better as there might not be a deductible.

My 2012 CPO 335i was a hunk of poo poo. I remember a month after buying it, the coolant tank ruptured and I had to get it towed to the dealership.

It was manufactured on Jan 29/2015

Fortunately I also bought the eight year platinum warranty (four additional years) so I should be taken care of one way or another...

, I wonder who is the sucker, I never buy new, I buy low milage private sellers only. I got my 2015 428i with 19,000 miles last year for $15,000 USD, other similiar mileage/spec were selling for $26,000 USD at the time. I fully inspected the car, no gasket leaks, underbody is brand new, interior still had new car smell. I bought it off a business owner that needed cash urgently. It took me 8 months of patiently looking and waiting for a deal like this to pop up and jump on. I take full advantage of depreciation and desperate sellers, so Keep assuming random things buddy, that'll get you far in life.

My 1st BMW I bought new, I can't refuse the discount I got. I can blame all to BMW if there something wrong with the car. Used and CPO also not bad, it's all up to you if the prices are right. Then you need to inspect them before buying, the OP of this thread somehow took a delivery of a CPO with a steering problem which he got corrected. But this issue tell me that the dealer who did the Certification for CPO probably didn't do properly inspect the car seeing that they miss the steering issue. Now for the OP what else did to check before buying... or the price look to good to pass up🤔

That's not bad, beats paying new retail, were you able to get some sort of warranty, I guess it may still be under factory warranty when you brought it so you could extend it.

Naw, I won't get extended warranty, to me that's a scam too, I work on my own cars, the F32 I got now is rediculously low milage, and I use the best of everything, LL-01 full synthetic oil, 94 octane gas, BMW OEM coolant etc, so it really shouldn't have problems for years. Plus I got a mechanical shop friend for any major jobs if I ever need it.

For my previous car the E92 335i, I went to the stealership to ask for a quo on a part once and out of curiosity, i ask for the price for install, the mechanic that walked by said "o ya, half hour at the most." Then the service assistant said "o but we charge 2 hours minimal for this task" lol, ya no thanks.

Easy a lot of research and wrench... but you need a garage for the newbie to DIY. First time oil change took me 4 hrs. . Then it got better... now it take me 1 hr max. I say garage for work beause you might end up not finishing and have to leave everything out in the open.

Our bimmers are surprisingly easy to work on actually. I had audi before and it was a pain in the ass to work on, they purposely put things where you can't reach.

Well it's in the shop now - at least BMW gave me a free loaner. I also discovered the driver's speaker sounds a bit blown. We will see if everything gets fixed the first time around.

It should be $50 deductible only. How is the loaner did you get a G20?

IIRC in iDrive there should be a setting for the alarm, something like “audio alert” to control the beeping/honking. It’s worth poking around in the iDrive settings if you haven’t already - plenty of things there to customize.

There is no deductible on my plan, and also these things should have been caught during the CPO process so they are covering it.

The dealer called and told me the rough idle is normal. I am not sure I believe them but I am not sure what else I can do at this point other than take it to an indy mechanic...since I have the warranty I will just leave it until it's worse.

I did get a G20, a 330i xDrive.

I found the new iDrive more confusing than the current one, I couldn't figure out how to adjust the audio bass/treble and gave up after several minutes. It is a very smooth touch screen though. The interior does feel improved in some respects but in others it feels a bit more confusing, more "tech" feeling. The digital dash is neat but more of a novelty in my opinion.

The suspension felt like a bit of an improvement but not particularly material IMO. The steering feel felt a bit better as well, but it still doesn't match my E46.

I could tell it did feel a bit quicker as well.

The seats had very aggressive side bolsters and lumbar even when turned all the way down. Not a fan.

Overall I don't really feel like I am missing out on anything with the F30.

The maintenance stuff is cake especially with so many videos covering it step by step. It's when you get to things like a clutch job, vanos rebuild, headgasket or oil pan gasket that requires lowering the subframe that DIY'ing makes really difficult if you do not have the right tools.

I also have trust issues so i DIY almost everything.

Yes, as I've said, I searched for 8 months everyday to find a private desperate seller with a car in excellent shape. All other sellers were asking around $26,000 at the time. so I jumped on this immediately, obviously after I did a thorough inspection. The guy needed cash badly for his electric bicycle startup company. The car to this day had no issues what so ever, brake pads are at 30% though, so I need to do that soon.
