(Update) Repaint from A96 mismatch.
So recently the shop has repainted my bumper, in hopes of a better match and this was the result...
I immediately rejected this and asked for a repaint. Some time later, I receive a text saying how obvious it is and they'll get it right. How do they not see it before having me take a look? Is mineral white (A96) just that hard of a color to match? Should I just cut my losses and accept whatever they have for me next? Went all week without my car... |

Obviously metallic is much harder to get correct regardless of price. |

And these guys as supposedly BMW specialist. They only work on BMWs. Based on the pictures is that acceptable for 500? |

Then again, we've seen from many pictures on forum that others have a different standard of what is acceptable and that they think look goods. It's also why some people still rent bright cyan blue (sky blue) tuxedos. Just know what I've seen when others have Metallic paint jobs on Bumpers for $250-$500 or so. Non-metallic is much more forgiving and does not involve flake color and mixture as well as spray direction. However, base color still has to be correct. |

Those guys need to change careers. They suck at painting. No reason why it shouldn't match perfectly. My last BMW had a metallic paint job and I had the rear bumper replaced. Paint matched perfectly. podman Last edited by Mr Podman; 06-01-2019 at 04:56 AM.. |

Plastic and metal are indeed painted differently, but them telling you they cannot match the paint because of it is a sign of them being inept at their job. My rear bumper, which is also a metallic paint, was repainted. The cost was over $1000. I expected them to have to blend into the surrounding panels but they didn’t have to. Granted, white and silver are difficult colors to match but they can be done successfully.
