Temporary Fix for CarPlay Connectivity Issues

It's clear many are encountering CarPlay connectivity issues. From my experience, it seems the problem is stemming from the vehicle's WiFi module randomly idling out and not allowing the iPhone to reconnect. I've found a solution that's worked flawlessly for me each time I encounter the bug:

Toggle the vehicle's WiFi off and on under device settings.

While we await a permanent patch from BMW, this temporary fix seems to be the best solution at the moment. You can even bookmark the WiFi toggle to one of your shortcut buttons for faster reset (at least this is possible in vehicles with 03/2019.XX software).

Thanks for posting this suggestion. I tried this out a couple times and it worked to restore the Apple CarPlay functionality. It definitely beats restarting iDrive.

I have my car at the dealer right now because of the CarPlay issues. They aren't able to reproduce it, but they saw WiFi failures in the diags.

They said there is an SIB 84 08 19 about CarPlay cutting out and that a new SW update 2019/07.xx due at the end of June / early July is supposed to address those issues. I'll have to take my car back to the dealer at that time.

Hopefully we will be able to get that version by Remote Upgrade.

Hopefully, but I'm not holding my breath.

I installed ios13 beta with the new CarPlay and since yesterday, all connections have been successful. Fingers crossed. Did anybody experience the same thing?

How do you bookmark it?
Navigate to the WiFi setting in iDrive then instead of pressing OK, press and hold one of the preset buttons on the head unit 1 - 9 and it will save a shortcut to the selected feature.
