Vehicle Weight Reference Thread

As many threads have posts commenting on vehicle weights, it has become difficult to focus on apples-apples comparisons. The purpose here is to arrive at a basic weight without fuel (since all methods use % of fuel weight and capacities vary, even this inclusion produces uneven playing field).

Definitions:
WT DIN: Empty plus 90%Fuel (no Driver)
WT EU: Empty plus 90%Fuel plus 75kg Driver
WT Curb: Empty plus 100%Fuel plus any options expected in >33% vehicles sold in region, and may sometimes include Driver weight

Here's a spreadsheet which deletes fuel weight from the equation to yield a 'Derived Empty Weight (lbs)' [DEW]. Not all Mnfrs specify whether they are using EU or DIN (such as AR and Maserati), so although an attempt has been made to list accurate numbers, if errors are noted just share an updated value and provide a reference link, and it can be updated easily.

Based on the above X3M looks to midpack, slightly on the heavier side.

Personally, it's not a point towards a non-purchase.

Found this on another car forum regarding the additional bracing and if there is a sunroof an A-frame brace is added at the back. Might be a few pounds lighter for those who can delete the sunroof.

"Thanks to the four additional struts in the front and one in the rear, and to the stiffer stabilizers, the chassis is quite tight and with minimal body roll, despite the fairly high riding height. If you equip your X3 M or X4 M with a sunroof, you're also getting an A-frame brace at the rear to further resist lateral forces."

That makes sense as to why the curb weight is higher.... bmw expects most to be sunroof equip therefore has to include all that additional bracing into the weight listing same with all the driver assist hardware and exec pack goodies

I would be interested to see an M drivers pack only competition weighed next to what will almost certainly be the most common variant: competition with exec, sunroof, and driver assist

moonroof weight is way off, its over 200 lbs (size of it)

4600 lbs US is accurate because of sunroof.

Exactly.

Hoping C&D (or some other mag) will do just that, along with CG estimations, and slalom and skid pad. Only way we're going to know - everything else is just guessing or estimation.

Agreed the glass roof must be responsible for 200 lbs or more. It's really unfortunate they bundle it in exec pack although you can pay more to un-bundle it. Alfa and MB both have it as an ala-carte option!
