Upgrading the audio system

My X2 has the 'hifi-system' (option S676A) and I'm orientating myself for a nice upgrade of the speakers and amplifier.

At the moment my preference is for the Audison-system. This is a BMW customized (plug and play) system, so no cutting/soldering is needed. The other advantage is that the speakers and amplifier are sold separately, so I can upgrade step by step.

Does anyone have any other experiences (X2 only please!) with other brands like Bavsound, Focal, Audio System, Alpha One, etc.?

I believe that system also has the center speaker. No harm in asking on x1 forum, same setup.

Hey Peppie,

I did a little write up with some pictures.. it'll help you take apart the doors. I personally just added the tweeters and I'm happy for now. Ie this now compares to my wife's X1 with the HK system for all of $33 USD.

Now I do not crank the volume up really high because I really don't want to go deaf, and I do like to hear my engine and everything else, so I assume that adding the amplifiers would help with that. I did read that the best/easiest plug-n-play amp would be the Match7-UP amp and could be "best offered" for $700 USD. On the 2 series forums there was a good thread where people were arguing whether replacing speakers first or replacing the amp first was the best choice. I decided that adding the tweeters was my first priority to my ears. I did not open up the center dash but I am 99% sure there is the center speaker there.. just no tweeter. I was playing music and threw my ballcap on top of it and it seemed to muffle the sound (yes my scientific test haha).

I have only heard a system with the Audisson upgrade and it was noticeably better.. but it was like 3-4K usd for the upgrade, which to me is overkill for the car!

Thanks for your reply! About the costs; I can get the whole Audison-system (amp+front+back+subs) for around 980 euro's. So that's a lot less comparing to the price in the US!

The advantage of the Audison-system is that it's all plug and play and it's all 'designed' for upgrading the hifi-system / 676-option.

But maybe there are better solutions for this price?

EDIT: Since my car doesn't have stock tweeters, I need to replace the windows-strips to get space for the front-door tweeters. Is there a huge difference in sound quality between the comp K4E and the coaxial X4E? Maybe it's an option to replace the OEM speakers with the X4E coaxial in stead of getting new parts to mount tweeters.
