New SBM 50i pics!

A few snaps to share. We picked this baby up last Fri at the PDC. Bummer when we got there: It had been hail damaged in 4 places. Other cars were as well. Freak storm in SC. The repair was "paintless ding repair" done while we thrashed their cars on the track, prior to delivery. Immaculate results. I have no complaints, they could have fixed it before we arrived and not told us. Interior is black ventilated leather w/ dark bamboo.
Cheers! ad

"The repair was "paintless ding repair" done while we thrashed their cars on the track". Since I'm a California kid what is "paintless ding repair" and do you have to do this often in SC ?

(I'm about two hours from getting mine, service and detail guys wanted to do their thing).

Absolutely stunning!

Same combination I ordered... with the exception that I also ordered the running boards.

Can you please post some interior pictures as well?

My interior is also black perforated seats but with Flywheel Black Aluminum trim...

Congratulations! You will absolutely love it! I did not know what a PDR was until it was described to me. It can only be done if the ding does not compromise the paint in any way (crack or chip) so they can either use adhesives or suction to pull the dent out or sometimes push it out from the rear. It will not show up on the car's records as damage because no paint or finish work was involved. Or so I was told! They said this was the first time this has happened there to cars waiting to be delivered at the Performance Center. They do not keep them inside! The ironic thing is that if I had gone the conventional way of delivery at my dealer, it would have been shipped out days before the storm hit in SC! But then again, a percentage of those cars get damaged in transit as well. Cheers! -ad

The interior shots I took did not turn out well. Need a reshoot w/a better camera and will post soon.

Yours should be with you soon. Do you have a date?

I ordered mine on May 30th... But still don't have a production date. My dealer had called me back in June I think and told me that the production had been pushed out from July into August and that my 50i would most likely be an 09 model. Last call I got was at the beginning of August just to update me that they still did not have any better news for me

So I am still patiently waiting for that elusive call ... which will hopefully happen sometime soon.

Anyway, thanks for the

I look forward to your interior shots.

Enjoy your new ride ... All I can do for now is sit here and over your posted pictures.... I absolutely love the SBM

+1 One nice benefit to the X6 no one seemed to notice. It has the same 600watt premium sound system as the X5 but 30% less interior volume.

Translation= One rockin audio system.

+2! Congrats ad - looks fantastic.. Agree with Chuck re: sound system - it sounds absolutely AWESOME inside with the volume up!

BTW - my 35i has a small 'dink' on the rear quarter panel on delivery - done during transportation in all probability. The dealer did a good job of buffing it out without breaking the factory paint seal (which was the important outcome!)

Enjoy! Anteater.

autodahn, Beautiful X6.....enjoy that exhaust note!!!! Interesting about the hail damage.I've publicly stated on this forum about my concern for hail damage at the BMW Plant here in SC.Contrary to what BMW might have told you.....this area quite frequently receives severe hail producing thunderstorms during the warm spring and summer months.I know BMW temporarily stores much of it's production in outside lots until it's put on trains or trucks for shipment. The outside storage issue is not unique to just BMW Plants. Most of the car plants in the SE US deal w/ the thunderstorm issue and outside storage lots.I'm not sure what the long term solution would be.Maybe some sort of covered storage bld.I guess cost and logistics collide w/ the probability of a severe thunderstorm occuring and the cost to fix the damage. Some Auto Plants install a sonic blast machine that apparently breaks up the hail before it hits the ground.I'm not sure if BMW employs that type of device.Your comment about the hail really raised my antenna. Thanks! PalBay
