Thanks for posting; these guys are always amusing. Thoughts:
- it would appear that we now have at least one data point on the whole M40i 382hp vs. the Supra. The only previous comparison was Carwow's drag test but since that comparison used the euro Z4 it wasn't really applicable to those of us with the 382hp version. Surprizingly and despite the HP ratings and manufacturer's claims, it would appear that these two cars have performance parity. - Overall, I think their observations were valid though this is the first time I've heard any tester complain of the damping. Styling is subjective and while I don't hate the Supra's look quite as much as I initially did, it still leaves me cold....particularly next to the Z4 which I think looks stunning. - Lastly, it's very interesting to note the differences between the two cars but to declare one the winner over the other is a waste of time; they are two different cars for two totally different target audiences. I don't want a hardtop no matter how good it is and the extra cost for the premium interior and other goodies that the BMW offers is money well spent for me.......again, I'm not in the Supra's intended market and I doubt there is very much overlap there; you either want a Supra or you want a Z4. As far as the sibling rivalry, unlike some (most?) people, I consider the joint effort a good thing and I think the Supra will provide opportunities for aftermarket performance goodies that may work on the Z4 and which may not otherwise be available. cheers, Dave |

Sounds like BMW could learn a little from how Toyota tunes their steering...

Certainly sounds like the Supra tuning is a bit more to my taste, but the Z4 is the car for me. Hopefully the LCI gets some tuning tweaks along with that manual.

It sounds as though they have both successfully created the right vehicle for their target audience, the Z4 leaning a bit more toward luxury, the Supra leaning a bit more toward handling.

The reviewers obviously don't know BMWGirlFL when they said the Z4 was the "Gentlemen's Sports Cruiser".

I agree with the review and previous posts in that in reality they are different cars for different target owners. Although knowing what I really wanted was a convertible, I looked at Supras but just couldn't warm up to their styling. The looks, premium features, comfort and performance (and drop-top) makes the Z4 the clear winner for me.

My opinion is that adding the luxury touches is a different thing than driving dynamics. The Z4, for 20k more, should have both.
