AZ Bimmer folks

Hey guys,

I've been using bimmer forums over the years for a couple different rides, and have recently come up on an E93 with some issues i am sorting out.

I would love to know is there are any Arizona guys on here, and if so if i can get a referral to a good independents on the west side. I also have a Transmission issue that i may have to end up replacing because of, and wanted to know your thoughts on buying a used one with 65k miles from LKQ locally for $770, or if you guys recommend someone to rebuild the one i have. The code indicates bad clutch back between gears 3 and 4, and driving it its pretty evident that's true.

Thanks in advance guys!

Steve

I am in AZ and will always help out a fellow enthusiast!

Something that you could possibly do is buy the solenoids and see if that fixes the problem. There are quite a few different options that you can try before replacing the trans.

It all depends if it's your daily and if you wrench yourself. I am pretty far north and know of a few people who would love to work on it if you do not do the work yourself.

I do most of the work myself. I have a large shop with a lift and have been doing car work since i was a kid. From the things i have read it doesnt seem likely that the solenoids would be the culprit for it throwing a clutch pack code, but i could be wrong.

I have already done the obvious to fix the trans problem. I have replaced all the seals between the mechatronics and the tranny. New fluid and had dealer reset the tranny comp. The next thing would be solendoids, or rebuild of the tranny clutch packs. At this point i feel pretty strongly i need a tranny expert to tell me whats up, but i dont know who to trust on the NW side of Phx.

Side note: I will be doing an injector replacement to index 12s today, and will be using a ton of the info i have gleaned off these forums to guide me. Appreciate you guys!

Send your code to ZF. They will respond quickly with their opinion. Many times the solenoids loose pressure which causes the clutch to slip and throw code. You can also send them a screen shot of the adaption values from ISTA.

UPDATE:

I have replaced all solenoids and fluids. I have reset adaptations. I took for a test drive, and popped the same code.

I have emailed ZF to see what their thoughts are.

I have 2 questions.

How can i determine if its the tranmission itself or the mechatronics failing?

If it is the actual clutch packs in the transmission and i will need to replace the tranny itself with a used one, can i use my existing mechatronics unit with the new tranny and not have to recode the tranny?
