[SOLVED] Drain plug question on new Behr radiator

Hello everyone!

Just replaced my radiator on my 325i 2006 with a OEM Behr one from FCP Euro. The bleeder screw on my old radiator was blue and was two screws screwed together. The new radiator has a one piece bleeder screw, and comes with an o-ring. I am not sure if I can use it or if I should order a new one? I've seen videos where kits are sold with a pair of two types of bleeding screws, but I'm not sure if it's necessary for the Behr one. No leaks on new radiator.

Thanks.

Solution:

Read the Q&A section of the radiator listing on FCP Euro, and someone else already asked the question. Sorry for wasting your time guys, should have done more research outside the forums. Here was the reply to the same question:

"The drain plug is completely different than the OE plug. It is pre-installed on the radiator out of the box. It is not a replaceable item."

I wasn't aware that the radiator had a bleeder screw. You're not talking about the drain plug right?

Yes, my bad. It's the drain plug in the driver side bottom. I called it a bleeder screw because it looked like one haha

Ah okay. Yeah never ever try to remove the hex part. It'll snap internally and you'll need to get a new one. The radiator won't be able to seal and it'll leak everywhere. It's no fun it's a one-time use bizzarre snap-in connector thing. I hate it.

Contrary to FCP Euro, it is actually a replaceable item.

Well the new one is some 20mm Phillips nut, I did unscrew it to make sure what it was before installing the radiator, after unscrewing and breaking the OEM one... Anyways, I'm glad I don't have to go back there and worry about getting the right piece, finally the job was done and dang these hoses were tight...

Where did you get the replacement part? Do you have the part number handy? I'm in the same situation. I'm not interested breaking it and then not being able to fill it back up

I thought the consensus with these radiators was to never take the plug out unless you're going to replace the radiator because it will break and not go back in properly. I'd just remove a hose

I just replaced mine last week or so on 2006 330i radiator. I used the brass one below, some silicone and a nickel to lightly tighten it. It hasn't leaked.

You can look on FCP Euro to see if it will fit or find the part number there.

I wish I could have seen this post a week ago, before I drained the cooling system and removed the drain plug from the hex part and broke it. Luckily, ECS tuning had it in stock.

Part numbers can be found in this thread:

Just an FYI, that plug has 2 OEM versions, one is for an mt and another is for an at car. If you put a wrong one in your radiator, you’ll either have a leak or overheat your trans.
