Entertaining the idea of an F31 Engine Swap...
So I just finished up my 6mt n54 swap into an e91 wagon. Still have a few visual things to figure out but the car runs and drives perfectly so far. Unfortunately for me, my brain always likes to take things to the next level and now I'm debating selling my e91 and buying and f31 wagon instead 😂😂
Eventually, I'm going to do a full f80 m3 conversion on an f31 wagon, but for now that's financially impossible for me. However, I would be able to afford getting a wrecked f30 335i or 340i. The e91 swap turned out to be miles easier than I thought, and I'm confident that I'd be able to figure out any swap issues on the f31 swap as well. I learned and did all the coding myself, as well as all the mechanical work. The goal here would be to have a running and driving n55 or b58 powered xdrive f31 wagon, pushing roughly around 400whp. Who want to see it done? I'm thinking it'd be easiest to swap over literally the entire wiring harness and modules from the f30 and then just add a few wires for the trunk specific things and code it in. Also, thoughts on b58 vs n55? Both can make good power, n55 has a little more tuning options atm because it's been out longer, but the b58 is looking real nice with the closed deck design and people have already been pushing some serious power out of it on the new supra. Let me make one thing clear here though, I'm not interested in hearing that it can't be done or it's financially not worth it. I love wagons, and I love doing crazy projects. It can be done, it's been done before already. I'm just speculating at the moment, thinking through a few things. Let me know what you guys think!

They really are... if it were my build I'd go B58 all day... sure the aftermarket isn't quite there yet, but that's where it's headed. Plus the B58 sounds better personally.
Obviously, an s58 would be the absolute tits, but even the wrecked f80 m3's I see are still a little cost-prohibitive. Timothi2 I'm impressed with your swap, especially since you did it outside without a lift. It really inspires me to get off my ass and find a wrecked 335i. It's just hard to take the knife to an otherwise perfect e91. |

But thanks! The worst part about the whole thing is I have two, two post lifts sitting on a trailer waiting to be set up somewhere in the backyard, but I've got to clear out some space and lay down a good concrete foundation so that's my holdup. Hopefully by my next swap, they'll be up and ready to go so it should make my life a million times easier. Next thing you know, I'll have a forklift for all the cars I'll. be parting out hahaha |
