no, a Civic SI is not a ricer. a ricer is the person driving it IF AND ONLY IF he has altezza tail lights, a shogun spoiler, a 5" fart can and exhaust tip, an eBay header, and/or any combination thereof . otherwise the Civic SI is either stock or tastefully modified. hope that clears up what a ricer is.

A stock Si is in no way shape or form ricey. The Mugen isn't even ricey.

Ricey is when you start to put roof spoilers (like so many E9x on this forum) and clearing/smoking the ambers (this isn't JDM). Things that add no function and very little or no visual appeal.

As mentioned above, no, the Civic Si is not a "ricer" car. The term "ricer" falls for a class of people who don't know the relevance of the parts being put on their cars and only puts them on to only think it will enhance the look of the vehicle.

Some examples:

so would you take a SI or a Mugen as a money saving alternative to a 135i?

It'd be a toss up between the GTi and the Si.

Stock I would go for Si.
Modded I would go for GTi.

I wouldnt touch either as an alternative to a 135i. Not even in the same class, really. The 1er is quite a bit more refined than either of those. More like a small 3er than anything else.

I always thought ricer was someone who mods for all show and no go. That said there are plenty of people who do that, but don't consider themselves ricers or consider themselves above ricers.

On the other hand there's the difference between tasteful cosmetic mods and disgusting puke in your mouth.

Given that the 335i is already a plenty fast car people don't usually associate ricers with 335is rather someone who mods a slow ass car to look fast when it isn't.

LOL. Why people insist on putting loud exhaust on a car that sounds like a weedeater. If anyone actually thinks they sound good, must be tone deaf.

My TSX with authentic mugen front lip and TE37 was called "ricer" by a kid on a E36 318i with M badge, huge wing, blink blink chrome rim and replica E46 M3 front bumper... so for some idoit any japanese car are considered ricer

There's plenty wrong with being a "ricer". The term should usually be used as something derogatory as well. Ricers are the types of people that give US car enthusiasts a bad name, and a bad rap. They usually don't know much about cars, and will usually be the ones to do something stupid, or act like an asshole on the road. Ricer's "play the part" when in actuality, they're just trying to fit in, or act cool.

Ricers would:
-try to race anyone and everyone, with their 99' non-turbo eclipse with an exhaust purchased from pep boys. (After you refuse to race, or beat them in a race, they'll do a "Ricer Fly-By" and drive down the road like an idiot, as if they won, or something.
-put racing stripes on anything (a 97' Corolla)
-buy rims that are worth more than the car they drive. (Or steal rims and put em on their shitty car.)
-talk about cars as if they know about em, regardless of actually knowing anything about the car.
-will seriously use terms from Fast & Furious movies.

Here's a wonderful example of a ricer and his Mustang... GTR?

Ricers are the embarrassing bottom end of the car community.

rice cars are cars that people do up with so many mods, you can clearly see that it doesn't suite the car or is too much, especially japanese cars. rice stuff include massive spoilers and ridiculously wide and overdone body kits and paint jobs like in the fast and the furious. japanese cars with lambo doors, chrome rims and neon lights are ridiculously rice

Ricers defy good taste. And are therefore frowned upon. That's all.

Ricer is a derogatory term, referred to any automobile made in Asia, used by an European auto owner to express his disapproval of those type of cars.
