All Terrain Tires

Has anyone put all terrains on their X3 before or currently run them?
I remember this photo being on the BMW USA M-Parts website and thought it looked pretty good. It's an X5, though. Most of the photos I can find online are of the X5 with A/T's on them.

I've got a set of Yokahama Golander AT mud and snow on mine right now.

18" diameter.

We had a snow storm today and I was passing people left and right. The things are unstoppable in the snow.

The best was when I left everyone spinning wheels at the stoplights. I had it in sport and was 1/2 mile away from them before they started cruelly moving.

So...what was the question?

Do you have any photos of them currently on? It's hard to find the G01 in AT's online.

No pictures yet, but I'm planning on putting Cooper AT^3's on mine soon. I was surprised to see that BMW put such a cheap tire on at the factory. Seems like a $51K car should have something better than Bridgestone Duelers.

I mean, I bought a Suzuki Sidekick brand new in 1994 for $14K and it came with Duelers. WTF, BMW?

X5 looks great with ATs, got to drive one at the PDC last week.

For those running X3's with ATs, what tire size are you running? Haven't found any options for 19's, probably have to go down to 18s I assume?

I agree. That's a great look. I think I may do it when my current ones wear out.

I ran Geolandar G015 A/Ts on my Subaru Outback and they are a great 3 season all-road tire. Closest size I could see for an X3 is 235/60R18 107H. They are great mud and soft gravel tires.

All terrain tires

Hi all I’m a new owner of an X3 and going back to a previous question, do 235/60/18 fit on the X3 ok? Is there enough space in the wheel arch?

I would urge caution in assuming all terrain tires are good on snow and ice. Most are not. Look for the 3 Peak mountain snowflake symbol for those that may be at least acceptable. None will be near as good as a dedicated snow tire.

I also found this web-site with full description of models
https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw/...-m40i-usdm-382

I plan to buy 19" rims and 225/55/19 tires for winter (my car is still delivering but I added M-Sport brakes in my configuration). This size is not in the list but I think that it should work. There is no big choice for 245/50/19 that is described.

There is no snow where I’m gonna live (Portugal) but plenty of off road tracks

I'm really happy with my new set of Falken Wildpeak AT Trail tires. They ride much smoother and quieter than the stock Bridgestone Run-flats. And they look fantastic. I haven't had a chance to try them in winter conditions or off-road, but I suspect they will perform better than the stock tires. As far as I can tell, there is no sacrifice in dry performance, but I don't push this family wagon to its limits. I do, however, pull a 3,000 pound double jet ski trailer through windy mountain highways, and these grip just fine.

My stock tires were 245/50/19 and I went with 245/55/19 on this new set. No issues with fit or clearance.

Nice! And I bet your speedo is closer to *actual* speed with the higher profile tire vs. stock.

Ha! Good point.

Now what to do about the suspension... it gets bogged down with a trailer tongue weight of less than 750 lbs. Has anyone tried a lift?

Not sure about air suspension options, which would be best. Probably get waaay expensive. Having a weight distribution hitch or at the least a dual wheel trailer is prob a less expensive option?

What is your hitch tongue weight?
My (aftermarket) hitch has a max tongue weight of 100kg.
I'm surprised your rear suspension is sagging so much - that (to me) looks like your hitch weight is too heavy and is potentially overloading the hitch and be potentially dangerous.

A double axle trailer would reduce the weight on the hitch significantly

Couple other causes, how loaded is the car itself (people, cargo). Is the bracket for the winch adjustable? Can you move it backwards so the jet skis are pushed further back? Ideally you want the majority of the weight just forward of the trailer axle. Properly balanced, two skis don't weigh much on trailer tongue.

^ exactly - if the trailer weight is too far forward of the trailer axle this will cause too much nose weight, which will potentially overload the hitch.

If you can adjust the trailer jet ski mounts so they rock slightly further aft this will reduce the nose weight.

Have you weighed the hitch weight? What is it?
