Retrieving Emails

I read in the owner's manual of my 530e that you can set the car up to retrieve email messages from an iPhone and have them read while you are driving.

Is there a special option required to do this? I have an iPhone which is synced with my car (for purposes of the phone and playing music, podcasts, etc.) but I cannot find any option in the iDrive for checking messages.

The owner's manual itself is not very helpful (unless I am looking in the wrong place). It simply says:

Via iDrive:

1. "Notifications"
2. Select the desired message.

When I go into "Notifications" I only see a reference to BMW Messages (i.e. when I send directions to the car).

Thanks.

I have not turned this feature on. I can see a situation where an email pops up that is confidential and I have a visitor in the passenger seat. Not worth it to me. My IPhone is inches away from me at all times (I won't look at it while driving but I can always pull over if it is that important).

Thanks.

I was actually more interested in how to turn it on than whether people have turned it on or why people don't want it on.

I wondered if there was a specific option required to enable this feature (which I had on prior Bimmers without knowingly adding as an option).

Be careful. I think this is very much country specific. So what works in the US or UK may not work in Canada and the reverse.
