Would you accept this tint job?
I had the windows on my 335i tinted a few weeks ago. It all turned out great, except for a spot on the upper right part of the rear glass where it looks like the tint didn’t get applied right. Would you accept this? Or should I take it back and have them redo it?

I actually just got back from the tint shop (went there during my lunch break). The guy told me "it's pretty normal for these cars"......"they all do that"......"we could redo it, but it's going to look the same way".
I think they are full of crap. At this point, I can leave it..or pay another shop to redo it right. |

Nope, time for them to redo it.

Here is a better close up picture....it looks like that on both sides of the window, but the right side is a little worse.

^this.
I had the guy, that tinted the Lexus, do mine 3 times before he got it right and realized I wasn't f'n around with him. The second time he did it, I told him if he didn't get it right, this time I'd be back and then asked him, do you want to keep doing mine for free or move on a get paid for doing a tint job. |

My E92 looks like that too.
the highest reviewed place in the area did it and said those little bumps make it unavoidable. Other threads on here have many people having this issue with E92 because of the large dot matrix |

My first thought was, hell no but then I went out to look at mine. The PO had the tint done along with a terrible roof spoiler which came off immediately. I thought that this was residue from the adhesive or perhaps BMW tinted glass. I'll check back to see your outcome and may do something with mine.

Dot matrices are very difficult to tint, the shop that did my last E92 said it was impossible but the shop that did my 335is had no issue.
I don't know enough about the practice, but it seems to be a competency thing..

My tint looks the same. Guy said this is common on e92s with the dot matrix because the film can't lay flat on the glass

Yup that is normal for the dot matrix. I went to a tint shop here in north shore MA that does all high end exotics.

also make sure there's no damage on heater wires while removing, if you ever get the job redone.
If one or more heater strip is cut, the defrost will still working, but the remaining strip will heat way more . So on a rainy/snowy day, the temperature differential on the window will be great enough to make the glass ''explode''. tell me how I know it... almost shit in my pants |

With that said, I had an Accord coupe that had the dot matrix stuff just like the E92. I had the back tinted and I don't know what the installer did but I never had any issues with it not adhering properly. It looked great even after 13 years, never peeling or bubbling. |

This. It's very difficult to get it to cling to the glass in between the dot matrix dots. In most cases, even if they do get it looking good at time of install, it'll eventually pull away again.

The same thing happened to my rear glass when I got it tinted kinda annoying. I tried hiding it with a windshield banner lol.

My 328 looks like the op's, but not quite as bad. My 335 I had the rear retinted because it was blurry. The tint job on that was perfect. You can barely see the dots at all. I'd say it comes down to the quality of the tint and the tinter.

That is pretty normal. It's not a big deal. They'll redo it and it'll look similar. If you want to fully solve it then you'll need to look into other solutions such as black vinyl over the dot matrix.
You'll ignore it eventually. I haven't paid attention to mine in years. No one else will, except for the severely tint-OCD. |
