Uuc 6 Puck Ceramic Clutch Review

Well first off my oem clutch went out on me last week. Talked to the dealership and they quoted me at 1500 for parts and labor for a new clutch kit and labor. Due to my mods ie: V3 procede, fully catless, AA intercooler, DIY twin air intake. I dynoed in at 421ftlbtq and another oem clutch would just get burnt up again. So Rob at UUC got in contact with me and said they have clutch kits ready and he could have it to me in 1 day. I ended up getting the 6 puck ceramic clutch kit because of the hard launches and nature of my driving. Rob shipped the clutch to The M Shop where I go for all my installs and had the car done in 2 days. Ok, now for the clutch. There is no chatter at all that I can here. The pedal is more stiff than with an oem clutch but it is not over bearing at all... I sat in 2 hour traffic on the way home... Almost stalled a couple times coming out of first but got used to it after a while. Shifts feel a lot more positive and the car gets into gear a lot more firmly. I am very impressed with the initial drive and after 300 miles I can really get on it and see how our cars should shit and feel under full throttle. Cost of the UUC clutch was 795$ shipped(thank you Rob) and labor with resurfacing the flywheel came out to 832$.

Here are some pictures of my burnt to hell clutch and flywheel along with the new clutch thanks to Jon at The M Shop/

Well UUC hasnt come out with me because they are not sure if a lighter flywheel on our turbo cars will be better... But an oem one is 1K$... so I rather spend the 90$ and resurface it one time

Looks good. Let us know how you like it as you get some more drag runs on it.

For sure. I have yet to take the car to the track... I now have slicks on the kosei k1 racing rims so I should be able to put up some of the fastest numbers.... Any idea when famoso is open?

Wow, the 2 nights next month may be the last for the year according to the schedule. Night is nice, however on their website it says it was 93F at 10pm tonight. No advantage there. At this point, the East Coast has the better tracks. It's totally disappointing the Famosa doesn't have test and tune in November/December/January, etc.

September
5 Friday Night Test and Tune – Gates 6pm
6 Chuy’s Fuel Altered Classic & Summit ET Race #6 – Gates 12:00
11-13 Lucas Oil Division 7 Race – Gates TBA
19 Friday Night Test and Tune – Gates 6pm
20-21 Association Racing Weekend – Gates TBA

If it were a Saturday, I would definitely go. But other than that, I am at work till 8pm usually on weekdays, so being that it is a 2hr drive, not possible. On the 19th I will be in Hawaii for a week. I hope I don't have to wait till Feb/March again to make some decent runs on a weekend. It is so frustrating not having a decent track around here. On the East Coast they have tracks close to sea level, open at night.

Look at these temps at Bakersfield tonight. 104F still at 5pm with 12mph winds. 102F at 6pm (Times listed are Eastern Standard).
These conditions are horrendous. And then they close during the months when the weather starts to get better? Its just so frustrating.

Yeah, I don't want to, but unless Famosa changes their schedule, or we all make a run to Sacramento some weekend. I would really like to make it to the track before Christmas though. Even LACR would have been better than nothing. It was always good fun. I will say however, at 2700 ft elevation, and almost 100 degrees, my stock 335i was killing it up there. But realize, stock M3s and V8 M5s, and GTOs were only running around 14.5 second qtr miles, and I was running about a second quicker than them, stock. So either way, you will still have great fun. If you do go one of those Fridays, you won't set any 1/4 mile records, but be sure to take note of how badly you are beating some of the other cars out there, and their respective times.

So is a clutch not covered under the 50k/4yr warranty? Or do you have more than 50k on the car?

I had a previous car that got a new clutch after 20k miles and it was covered under warranty but then again I didnt have it all modded up.

well bmw told me that if it was a failure in the clutch meaning any parts... it would be covered...but if it was burnt up they cant cover it....I think its ridiculous that they wont cover a clutch at least once if it gets burnt up... Normal wear and tear is what they dont cover and the clutch falls into that category

Right?

Well my car did only have 16k miles on it... so thats a premature failure of a clutch so if they take it out and see burn marks(or a clutch like mine) its very hard to get it covered since clutches dont start to go out until 70k on average

My clutch was covered under warranty, even though it was just burnt. It was probably just your dealership, and not any mandate by BMWNA.

My SA said he would replace it over the phone, nobody came to look at my car. Vehicle had about 56k miles on it when I brought it in for the repair.

That last picture looks like an 8 puck- not a 6.
Also, how did they resurface the flywheel?
I thought that Dual mass flywheels cannot be resurfaced?

good observation indeed it is an 8 puck.... Not too sure about that... 6 puck is what I ordered and discussed with UUC. I heard the same about dual mass flywheels however the machine shop had no problem with it
