Changing 225/40/19 to 235/45/19 - 440i ?
I'm replacing the front tyres (225/40/R19) on stock BMW 440i rims with 235/45 R19 - will they fit the stock front rims?
They're Michelin CrossClimate plus all seasons, and the closest size Michelin does is 235/45/19. The other option is fitting the 255/35/19 to the front, but they'll be too wide. Alternatively, I could change the front rims to accommodate the 255/35/19 I should get 18inch winter tyres, but I ... just can't Thanks Last edited by slowmule; 12-16-2019 at 07:33 PM.. |

a 235/45/19 will fit on the oem 19x8 however it's diameter is 27.3, 1.3" more than the 26" diameter oem tire. it will not fit within the wheel well and would likely damage your fenderwell liner while turning.
you can run same sized tires on the staggered rim widths if that works out better for you. 225/40/19, 245/35/19, 235/40/19 or 245/40/19 will fit on the 19x8 and 19x8.5" rims. |

The other option is to find dedicated winter tyres that fit and swap them over every season. |

You already know this, but if you have the storage space and resource available, a dedicated set of 18x8 on 225 or 235/45/18 snow/winter tires is always safer than all seasons w/light snow capability.
Minimum recommend rim width for 255/35/19 is 8.5" but I've read where others have put it on the 8" front. Turn in will be sloppier and tire may not perform optimally, but if the michelin cross climate plus is the only available tire or only one you want, then do 255/35/19 on 8". I'd prefer another brand/model of All Season(w/light snow) for your OEM 19" in the sizes I previously mentioned if dedicated winters is not an option. Not sure what's available to you in the UK but how about Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate, Yokohama Advan Sport A/S+, Dunlop Signature HP, Pirelli Pzero All Season, or Nokian ZLine A/S in 235/40/19? or add to the list Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+ and Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 in 245/40/19 size. The options in the UK tend to be limited, and the Cross Climate Plus are popular when you're only spending a few weeks in the snow. Thanks! |

while i'd always follow and recommend following a manufacturers specifications(they have them for good reason, some for performance, some for the lawyers), in your case, with such limited options and selections, going oversized up front may be considered.
i found @Chicken_Joe running 255/35/19 on the 19x8 fronts. although the sidewalls are bulging somewhat it does look mostly fine. it will be sloppier than with a 245/235/225, though. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=75 Last edited by alohasurftoad; 12-18-2019 at 03:08 PM.. |

Another option I have is getting 8.5 rims at the front? Would they fit? Coupled with something like the side fixing Polaire GRIP snow chains I can keep the 19inch wheels year round. |
