Required service free?

Hi all,

I bought a cpo 2016 340i and I just received an email from the dealer saying all required service is done free with original BMW parts and all.. if so that's amazing I guess. Have you guys experienced free required service for your cars?

Have you done any research? The 2016 comes with 4 years maintenance. It’s since changed but ,for 2016 it’s included.

I'm pretty sure the maintenance isn't transferable to subsequent owners only the original purchaser.

I can't speak for your particular purchase but for my recent BMW purchase the remaining warranty was transferred to us. We needed another car because my teen driver kept taking my car and my wife's car to school, work and her sports activities. I have a 2018 340 and was worried she would go crazy in it, so looked for a safe small SUV. We found a 2016 X1. It was a low mile, just off of a lease CPO and the remaining warrant transferred to us (had a year left on the warranty for us). Since it was in great shape and had less than 8k miles a year I also received a great deal on an extended warranty (which we purchased) to back up this car. I wanted her covered should she take the car to college. Anyway I hope that helps.

They may have changed it for CPO cars when they switched to 1 year unlimited miles over factory warranty.

^this. I’m pretty sure the change took place in July 2014 that the maintenance plan was no longer transferable to subsequent owners. I do think BMWNA created a way for dealers to add it back for a fee for CPO cars. Bottom line, you need to confirm with your dealer this is the case for your car, because normally the maintenance wouldn’t transfer.

Who’d you buy from? Post some pics.

That makes sense. I only looked at CPO cars for this new purchase. I wanted a used car in case my teen had an accident. All my other cars from BMW have been new. So at least for CPO you get a warranty; I guess as part of the CPO. I then extended that warranty. Thanks for clarifying.

I bought my CPO in '15, and it included the remainder of the 4/50 complimentary maintenance. Dealer made that clear when I purchased. But I had thought that BMW eliminated this for CPO sales starting in 16 or 17. But if your dealer says you have it, great!

Not for maintenance. That dropped from 4/50 to 3/36 in MY '17, but I didn't think it was offered for CPO purchases anymore.

It was definitely after that date. My 14 has an inservice date of 7/14, and I purchased in 1/15 with 5400 miles, with the balance of the scheduled maintenance. I think the change started in fall of '15.

We are talking about maintenance. The warranty will handle the problems.

Maintenance does not transfer to the next owner, that was a change done a few years ago. I can't speak for CPO cars since I did not buy mine as such. As far as I know, it is the same. Things such as the free oil changes, brake pad replacement, etc will not transfer from the original owner, unfortunately. You would need to purchase the BMW extended maintenance plan which is expensive and not worth it if you know any decent indy shop or can change your own oil.

Warranty is something completely different.

Just chiming in... i bought a 2015 CPO in May 2018 and when I brought it for oil change they covered everything (brakes, wipes, oil, etc.). However when my stepdad bought his 328i with CPO about a year later, the guy at the dealership said no to the free maintenance.

So... I'm guessing it's flexible and up to the dealer?
