Yeah when it happened my heart sank and I live in a town with no auto/hardware stores so no place to get easy out.. It wasn't bad with flat head, just hammered and kept pressure and turned slowly.. Had a expender grabber wire thingy to grab when out.
How have to wait to get plug in the mail.. I should of know better with the torque but thought the wrench would tell me.. It was brand new and what I read (after the fact) torque wrenches should be used in the higher range.. This one was 5 to 80 foot pounds.. Still not sure though.. Needless to say I didn't torque the rest of the plugs! |

I set torque wrench to 17foot pounds, treads were not lubed.. I have never broke a plug not using a torque wrench and I been wrenching for twenty years.. A torque wrench will let to over torque a bolt, its supposed to click when your there but if you ignore the click or don't get a click than wrench will keep on torqueing, the later was me and from what I read is due to using the wrench on the lower part of the torque rating..
This is a good read on the lower range issue... https://thumpertalk.com/forums/topic...run-into-this/ This also talks about the low range issue.. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/...broken.181617/ Last edited by TunafishE93; 02-11-2020 at 07:51 AM.. |

Never had issues yet torquing plugs or drain plugs with my Tekton 3/8 wrench, it's 10ft lbs to 80ft lbs range. |

For spark plugs, I'd recommend a 5-25 Nm (4-19 ft lbs) quarter inch torque wrench. Probably get a better click at a higher range. |

The one I used is stated above 5 to 80 foot pounds.. I do have a new 20 to 200 inch pound wrench that would of been better but didn't use because it didn't meet the torque target and I didn't know about the low torque issue on the other wrench..
I got a Pittsburg set that came with a 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drive.. Yeah I might have missed the click but tried after on wheel lug nut and still couldn't feel or hear anything.. This was my first time using a clicker so wasn't sure of operation. I have used bend the needle ones in passed but thought I would get fancy.. |

The Tektons I use aren't top quality SnapOn level either but I do think they are better than harbor freight. Yes the click is less noticeable but it's still there audibly and by feel. |

Actually for the calibration, if it goes out I think you can just claim their lifetime warranty. That's what I plan on doing. Just gotta find a reliable way to test the calibration though. |

Been using a torque wrench on mine for everything including
spark plugs no trouble. I wonder did you use the exact socket necessary for the 335 plug which is not exactly a common one. |

Anything wrong with the digital torque wrenches?
I have this one and I really like it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0081AQDIY..._KYVqEbHB5QBDB The only drawback is that it doesn't click so I tend to under or over torque slightly if I'm not careful but it has 4-99 ft/lb range and it works. I don't even need to set the torque as long as I can keep an eye on the LCD screen.

The problem is people over torquing because the torque wrench is not reliable or they miss the click, which is also because of low quality wrench, IMO. |

The problem is people who have no experience of tightening things, full stop. I mean how hard do you have to try to shear off a new spark plug, putting it in.
Surely there comes a point at which you feel its over doing it for a hollow tube. Except you never get the feel of it because you use a torque wrench blindly for everything. |

I love torquing things to spec but 20yrs ago I broke a plug using a torque wrench so I know what you mean. I will try the beam type
