check the oil filter housing.
if the center spool is damaged and allowing oil to bypass it can make noises.

I have a leak, but seems like it from the oil filter cap because these where the oil seems to be coming out of and not we're the oil housing gasket is located. Can this possibly be the problem?

yes.

pop the oil filter cap and have a look in there.

you need the o ring in the tip of the cage, the filter needs not be collapsed and the cage should be in god shape without being warped or other wise just shitty.

I ended up replacing mine. THey're not that expensive.
noise never came back.

I recently got my oil changed but I'm assuming they didn't change the o ring? Will I need to flush out the oil in order to open the oil filter cap

you will lose some oil.

it won't be much.
make sure to protect the drivebelt from spilled oil.
if this started immediately after an oil change then something in the cap is your #1 suspect.

don't neglect it. that center spool widget is crucial to maintaining proper oil pressure.

I ended up replacing mine simply because the center piece was all warped and in generally poor condition. the OE part is like $25.

Just changed it and another oil change and noise is still there. It's not leaking anymore form the Oil filter cap.

well at least you fixed the leak.

passed that I would suspect a failing PCV diaphragm or some sort of vacuum leak.

Already did most or almost everything to do with the pcv. I also took my car to check the vacuum lines and they didn't see any problems
