M340i AC Schnitzer box
The AC Schnitzer performance upgrade for BMW 3 series G20/G21 M340i has finally become available. I am heavily considering it, but wanted to hear if anyone maybe has already some early experience with it? Comes with 3year/100k km warranty and does not void my lease in Germany (from what I understood so far).

I took a look at the warranty and like other warranties in this space - you would need to be in a very very narrow lane to take advantage of the coverage if you ever needed it.
Generally speaking all warranties whether for this piggyback box or for other tunes are "limited warranties" to say the least. And come with a significant number of restrictions as to how you use your car, what you do with it, what other parts you can change etc, and where you may need to take it for repair, what parts are used (if they can be re-manufactured) etc...if it is determined you qualify for repair That said, don't get me wrong, I love the idea of warranties (why wouldn't i) but if someone is inclined to go with one piggyback vs another or one tune vs another based solely on "warranty" I simply suggest you take a very good look at the fine print to ensure that the limitations placed on you are within your comfort zone, are worth the uplift in cost to you, and work for your specific use case In summary the devil is in the details - but that may be okay for some for me it is simply not a fit for a number of subjective reasons (how I use my car, what I do with it etc...). But for others it may be a fit and that's great. I only share this because I think (feel free to disagree) there is a common misconception out there that has been fostered over the years that with a warranty on a piggyback or tune if something goes wrong you can simply drop your car at your friendly neighborhood BMW Dealer - throw them the keys and say, "fix it and call me when you're done." And that's simply not the case. Again - not a fit for me - may be a fit for you ps-if you are reading this and are thinking "chenry, what are the restrictions and limited use scenarios you are speaking of...tell me I want to know" I am not the expert in this space - and I would direct you to read the published warranty information by any of the companies that are offering a warranty and interpret things as you see fit Last edited by chenry; 03-09-2020 at 08:36 PM.. I can only speak for the ACS warranty which I have used for suspension parts and there was no issue at all. They covered damage done by the suspension failing as well.
But BMW wouldn't touch it. The aftermarket tuners warranty offers means your entire car warranty isn't void but if modding the engine, the warranty that covers the engine is void. So if you tune the engine but your rear suspension goes BMW will fix the suspension. But if your engine goes then you need to hope the aftermarket warranty covers it because BMW won't touch it. And BMW at least in the UK once they know there's an aftermarket part will try to blame that part for anything else failing that's even remotely connected....

Any news on this?... My BMW dealer is also the official selling point of Schnitzer for Greece and (according to them) warranty is valid as long as long as I do all the maintenance with them... has anybody pulled the trigger on Schnitzer?

It is extremely expensive! Over €4000!
Buy the RaceChip ECU instead, for less then €1000.

Uhhh yeah 4000 euro for 40 horsepower... I understand it comes with an ACS warranty but thats a pretty insane price at 100 euro per hp

From their website: Lorcan - anything to add? I havnt taken delivery of my M340i yet but am also considering the same. I think is costs around 3250 euro but nobody seems to have taken the leap. I'd love to read someone's review |
