Question ESS, 8.5PSI upgrade.

Hey guys, looking at getting the full ESS S/C kit, however I was wondering what the extra .5 PSI upgrade kit would equate too in terms of HP, as its an extra $500 US over and above the regular ESS S/C package: of 8.0psi.

Graham

The ESS 8.5PSI upgrade kit for the ESS TS2 8PSI SC system requires installation of the ESS FI camshafts and it is recommended to have a set of headers installed as well to take full advantage of the extra airflow generated by this setup. If you add the cams and headers here are the gains you will see. If you have any other questions shoot me a PM

Actually, I meant to ask... how well can the drivetrain take this sort of HP? I'm just worred about some supremely costly repairs/rebuilds. I'm sure the SMG is as tough as the 6-speed manual, but I'm just curious.

Whats the total cost (plus install & tune obviously) for all the said items; to work out to that given 361hp?

Only thing you will need to upgrade is the clutch the rest of the drive train is fine. The package including clutch is $10k. Installation will be determined by the shop that does the work. My guess is about $12k - $13k total with install and tuning.

Wouldnt it be cheaper to just swap the engine? Is it Possible?

^ I wont even try it... no matter what. These cars aren't muscle cars from the 60's and 70's. To swap engines on these would be remarkibly difficult, along with very questionable reliability. Besides I'd much rather have the power curve from a S/C'ed M54 then the power curve & maintenence of the M powered S54 variant.

Graham, you might want to check as I'm pretty sure that ESS's website indicates that automatic transmissions are limited to 7.0 psi boost.
