MHD for M340i USA

Looking for info on tune for M340i. But first would i be correct in assuming that this car has the same engine and horsepower as the Z4 M40i. 383hp. Anyone using MHD stage 1

I am a huge Mission Performance fan because they have earned my respect (and money HA) over the years. Toyota Corp agrees - they hired Alex (Mission Performance) to tune their B58 equipped Supra.

I like MHD (and all tuners for that matter) - that said I am a big fan of going with a US based brick and mortar that picks up their phone and doesn't require email

ps- call Alex and he will be happy to talk to you about things :-)
No offense meant, but you sure are one heck of a MP fanboy. You reply to almost every thread pushing their products. Are you getting a kickback?

no offense taken - I give credit where credit is due - and I always state my bias :-) MP Fanboy? You bethca :-) BMW Fanboy? You betcha :-)

I mean I did post a clear disclaimer as I always do.

In fact I posted and then thought to myself "let them figure it out for themselves" so I deleted my post but you quoted it so there it is so I will continue....all good:-)

Toyota Corporation Global chose MP for their B58 tuning and I do too. Here is the Toyota Supra from the LA Auto Show - yes MP is that good. He also picks up the phone and talks to his customers.

That said tune with who you want - no hate - just support for our B58 platform (i love it when new tuners enter the market - it makes everyone better) - motor on!! I welcome feedback from another tuner or maybe why people stay stock - it's all good conversation :-) Or maybe someone doesn't tune, stock is good for them and that's just fine!! Enjoy your car however you want - I just happen to really really enjoy mine with the MP tune, that's all.

Enjoy that beautiful blue car of yours

TLDR: I tune with MP for good reason - but I support all tuners and welcome your feedback | there is no "best" only what is best for you

From the Mission webpage:

*At the current moment, vehicles updated after 11/05/2019 will have a latest Anti-Tuning software and will need to have ECU shipped to us for unlock service. Further flashing will be available over OBD2.

My understanding from forums/usergroups is full DME unlock + tune can be done by the customer for MHD and bootmod3 via OBD2. Both sites list B58 tunes available but not the M340i specifically. Usergroups for both vendors say it's available so if true, I don't understand why MHD/BM3 don't update their website. I'm very interested in a tune but don't want a beta or test version but a "production" version

I don’t think BM3 has a tune for the M340i. And they CANNOT be flashed via OBD2 on cars having the updated DME software yet. At least for the G20 330i. No idea about MHD though.

I thought BM3 did have a tune for the B58 - I mean they list the S58 on their site, the A90, and every iteration of the B58 but don't specifically spell out the M340. They must have it I would imagine - someone find out and let us know

ps- MHD does specifically list an M340 solution

I guess the question is not so much the tune but the capability to remote unlock so you can flash from the comfort of your home

You are correct. They (Edit - They = PTF) mention every iteration of the B58, including the X3 M40i but not the M340i, which is weird.

And yes. I’d be very surprised if you could flash newer cars with the updated software. PTF is working on it for the G20 330i with the updated software but it hasn’t been launched yet.

So something changed with the DME in Nov 2019. Whether or not MHD or BM3 can unlock and tune the M340i seems to be a mystery based on what I've read and what others have mentioned above

M340i is listed on the right as a supported vehicle, but in the bar graph stock hp is listed as 326-360 which doesn't include our car. Not sure if that means anything or they just forgot to update the graphic

Its a bit confusing out there. I have been trying to figure out who can OBD flash the current software version and it seems like BM3 is a maybe, I have to send them my current software ids to know for sure. Active Autowerke claims to have obd flashing capabilities for all cars, but unfortunately I don't trust them at all due to a very negative previous experience with them. MHD said they are in the same boat as Mission, cant flash the 11/2019 update over OBD yet. Who else?

So that is very cool congrats - when you say "e50" are you mixing or what does that mean exactly - thanks!! Here is Cali we only get 91 at the pump and need to blend E85 to achieve higher octane so I am curious what you have access to in Michigan

We have 93 here so I’m mixing e85 with 93. I’m not exact with measuring or the e rating of the e85 but it can’t be lower then 70. So usually 9-10 gallons e85 and 5.5 of 93

great thanks! In terms of mixing it has been my experience (like you) that unless you are pushing things to ridiculous levels for dyno glory - close enough is just fine / looking forward to more feedback in time :-)

Take it for what it's worth but a couple of people in a bm3 enthusiast group on Facebook say the M340i tune is in beta mode

Hello.

I downloaded the firmware from BM3 beta.
Horror. Unstable nervous.

You are right, no one is posting on the site the ability to flash m340. In addition to Mission Perfomance.
Maybe they are the only ones with access to the program.

BAD NEWS! From MHD:

BMW released a new software version and no OBD flash possible anymore, as soon as a new hack is available we will of course add support.

So getting back to original question. Does M340i and Z4 M40i share the same engine? Only wanted to know because if its shared engine there are hopes for my Z4. (M340i) popular Z4 No. Don't want to beta test and already purchased the MHD ODB module. At least it works with Bimmercode so all not wasted. I'm getting impatient and might just go Jb4.

Unfortunately JB4 might be the best option for a while. I've emailed several tuners the last week or so, an overview:

MHD currently unable to unlock latest DME (post Nov 2019 delivered cars)
BM3 not even listed as a supported car on their website, but rumors of a beta version in progress
Mission - seems to be able to unlock but you have to ship DME to them
Carbaun(Dinan) - currently unable to unlock latest DME
MG - M340 not even listed on website

Go via MP (great and reliable tune) or forget it. MP offers via iOS or Windows laptop and pioneer. The rest are copy cats.
MHD while not available - only offered via Android.

AA tune should be great too along with catted downpipe!
