M340i boot spoiler removal
Wrong forum, I know, but more likely to get a response on here
Has anyone done this with a factory fitted part? Made a mess of my 435d when I took the old aftermarket spoiler off before vt I have a oem cf lip to replace the std one on the m340 I am worried it’s installed using beta link and the paintwork will get damaged removing Watched some videos, hairdryer, fishing line etc, what to use to remove adhesive? I used strimmer wire last time, it was too think and left hundreds of saw lines that I had to get machine polished out Any experiences appreciated

I agree that factory ones are a little harder to remove. Definitely same approach though just more care.
Warm day Tape all around the body work nearby Do everything slower Take breaks Have a little swear in the garage When you have some sections lifted, try flowing a little warm soapy water into the next section, walk away and leave for 30 mins You want to do it in 10 minutes but it's a better result doing small sections. The residue removal is the worst part though. Would say a machine polish at the ready might be advisable but not always necessary.

Had one fitted at a BMW dealer body shop last month, he made a point of telling me they always glue them due to the risk of them coming off with tape (yes I know it's ass-covering) as he wanted to confirm that I'd likely never be able to take it off again. So with that in mind I'd assume they do the same in the factory for similar reasons?

So the spoiler arrived with no tape, 3m vhb? I only need 6 mm for the back edge, trying to understand the top edge, there’s no rebate, so the spoiler will lift by tape thickness ?

All the G20 spoilers are stuck on with tape.
Have fitted half a dozen M Perf kits to them now. I will say that they are very well held On however.I use heat gun and windscreen Cutting wire ,then afterwards remove the residue with tar and glue remover. If you’re careful it will leave no damage. The M Perf spoiler is beta linked on. |

Would Molybdenum wire, 0.08mm do? It’s that thin it’s hard to see if I’m careful that it can damage the paint
